A 2020 Perspective: Sass, Lies, and Cringe — The Elizabeth Warren Candidacy

By: - February 6, 2019

I’m going to be completely honest with you right up front: I wrote off Senator Elizabeth Warren as a potential 2020 presidential candidate the moment that President Trump made her so mad that she mailed her body fluids through the United States Postal Service. However, she apparently needs an exploratory committee to evaluate her viability as a serious candidate for the highest elected office in the land.

Senator Elizabeth Warren has a long history of…well, making things awkward with her history. The controversy over her supposed Native American ancestry wasn’t a new controversy when the future president of the United States starting mocking her as “Pocahontas” during his 2016 campaign. Back in 2012, when it was revealed that she had listed herself as a minority in a directory for Harvard Law School, she faced a significant amount of criticism. However, she doubled down on insisting she was indeed a minority, given her ancestry. Yet, as it became ever more obvious that she was not of Cherokee descent, Senator Warren continued to pivot and make excuses for what she did. Eventually, she tried to declare a “win” by releasing DNA test results that indicated she had Native American ancestry…on a scale far less than the average American. Adding insult to injury, the Cherokee Nation condemned her even attempting to justify her claims with a DNA test, calling it offensive and irrelevant.

Not yet willing to admit that she was shooting herself in the foot, she then created the most cringe-worthy video of a politician trying to be relatable since…well, since every single moment in the Hillary 2016 campaign, in which Clinton was trying to appear human. On New Year’s Eve, she awkwardly drank a beer for the camera and tried to pretend to be a working-class average person, rather than an extremely wealthy politician and former Ivy League professor. “Hold on a second, I’m going to get me, um…a beer.” Yes Liz, that is how us very real Americans talk in our kitchens.

It is odd that Senator Warren would even want to run against President Trump, since she has supported many of his policies, such as TPP, NAFTA, and tariffs. In fact, in March of 2018 she said she wanted to see “a trade policy that puts American workers first, puts American small businesses first, puts American consumers first,” which falls right in line with the Trump trade policy. She also voiced support for the president’s tariffs, saying she “wasn’t afraid” of them and that they are “part of reworking our trade policy overall.” Her positions also mirror Trump’s in many ways when it comes to Afghanistan, China, Israel, and Syria. However, like many on the left, she has no issue with the contradictory nature of opposing Trump on things that she actually has endorsed, all out of some sort of sad contrarianism.

Elizabeth Warren is a perfect case study of how out of touch the Democratic Party is with America. Hillary was so off-putting that she lost the 2016 Election to a former reality star; the writing was on the wall, but nobody wanted to question whether people would actually go out and vote for her. Warren getting the nomination for the 2020 Election would be the greatest gift one could give President Trump.

    • 'Shut Up and Sing' still applies to emotional celebs
When Laura Ingraham wrote her book "Shut Up and Sing" in 2003, the Left didn't read the book as much as overreact to the title. The title implied something important.
