Logic Won’t Get You Far with Leftist New York State Government

By: - June 24, 2019

Making sense applying logic won’t get you far in leftist-run states such as New York. Just ask the state’s Republicans and conservatives. According to Tim Pearce of WashingtonExaminer.com, “County clerks in New York are protesting the state’s new ‘Green Light Bill’ by refusing to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.”

I’ve written about various police chiefs, sheriffs, and Republican county councils across the country invoking a “sanctuary” status in opposition to unconstitutional state gun and immigration laws. Now, you can add county clerks in Upstate New York to the mix. They are refusing to comply with yet another leftist state law that requires officials to ignore federal or state constitutional law.

The New York law requires clerks to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. One of the clerks protesting the state law is Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns. Once again, state government is forcing officeholders who’ve sworn oaths to uphold the U.S. and state constitutions to dishonor their oaths by upholding an unconstitutional state law above federal law.

Kearns is expecting a lot by daring to use logic with Governor Andrew Cuomo and his merry band of neo-leftists in the New York State Assembly, stealing from the logical and giving to the irrational. Kearns said, “In the memo of the bill, they talk about the reason why they’re passing this bill is to make sure that people who are here illegally can get to and from work.”

The problem, as Kearns points out, is “It is illegal to hire people in the state of New York or anywhere that are here illegally [remember how politicians, Rs and Ds, used to support e-verify?]. There’s an inconsistency there.” Yes, Mr. Kearns, there certainly is.

The new “Green Light Bill,” when it becomes law, will allow NY residents (yes, illegal, too) to use foreign passports and other documents as proof of identity to receive a driver’s license from the state. To show you how biased the reporting on illegal immigration issues can be, the Chyron on the CBS News screen read “N.Y. lawmakers OK licenses for immigrants” [emphasis mine].

“OK licenses for immigrants”? Missing an adjective, CBS News?

They must be, because immigrants can already get licenses. My mother was a legal immigrant from France, and she had no problem getting a license. So, CBS News had to have meant illegal immigrants, right? Such blatant misdirection from news organizations that refuse to acknowledge their bias is so damned dishonest and frustrating.

The new law has drawn national attention and criticism from Republicans and conservatives. Republican New York state Sen. Thomas F. O’Mara said the law will make New York a “haven for lawbreakers.” O’Mara also warned that the law places “overall public safety and security at risk, imposes another unfunded [mandate] on counties, and asks local, law-abiding public servants to break the law.” Which does not make sense.

In March, a Siena Poll found voters outside the New York City metro area oppose the Green Light Bill by 61 percent. Which does make sense.

Seems like there are still some New Yorkers who use logic, just not in the city or the state legislature.
