There is revolution in the air, my friends. Our blustering president, along with Bolton, Pompeo, and Pence, are going to start another stupid war. Maybe two. Maybe a third, here in the good ole’ USA. Given recent statements by all the above, I’d argue that starting a war in Iran is their clear intention. Pompeo wants Iran to give up its ballistic missile program, cease and desist its involvement in every country it’s currently involved in, completely shut down its nuclear enrichment, and at the same time release Americans unjustly imprisoned in Iran—all just because we say so.
Congress will have to muster the will to intervene, or, in my opinion, the people will not accept it. This is no counter-terror operation. This is no authorization for the use of force. This is war. Only Congress can declare war. Or…wait. Is this administration smart enough to negotiate a new nuclear treaty with Iran and North Korea at the same time?
Come on, brother, don’t waste a cell of your brain. It ain’t gonna happen. Thanks to our president, we have little influence with our allies, much less the rest of the world. Most of us who have never seen such behavior in the Oval Office are cringing at best. There will be a reckoning some day.
I know I’m one of the more left-leaning among us who love this website. I’m a little depressed right now. This isn’t the America I signed up for. That’s why I am compelled to take this stand. We’re being led by a megalomaniac, who, in the eyes of many, is unfit to perform the task at hand. The US doesn’t start wars, it finishes them. Yes, the Indians and Mexicans might disagree, but for the most part that was the case in the 20th century.
Think about what I just said. We must now decide whether we want to live in a country with a clenched fist, or a country with open arms?
In my opinion, we’re not far from experiencing Vietnam-style civil unrest. I can’t believe there hasn’t been more objection to Pompeo’s speech already. I mean, really, we’re gonna try to cause regime change in Iran? Anyone who thinks average Iranians will rise up and fall for our latest attempt to foment descent and expect the US to come to their aid is just plain ill-informed. Iran’s leader implicitly said it best, and I’m paraphrasing… “No one listens to the US anymore, why should we? Pound sand Mr. Trump. Just try it.” Likewise, anyone who thinks North Korea will give up its nukes suffers from a bad case of hubris.
Does anyone (other than what’s left of the neocons) think this is a good idea? The North Korea summit was a joke from the start. How do we continue to swallow such incompetence at the helm? Who really believes picking fights in Iran and North Korea is a good idea right now?
I have a theory that has many backers. Because our military is all volunteer, the average Joe doesn’t have to really worry about it, nor does he do so at all. Those who show up at a memorial service for the latest local to lose his/her life for a pointless, never-ending war should pause and answer this question: Why weren’t you beside him when he got hit? He’s fighting in your name. You gonna take his place? I didn’t think so. So, do me a favor the next time you mouth off about “we should go over there and kick their asses,” think twice and put yourself in their shoes.
Every American should serve at least two full years in the military, or some civil agency where they work their ass off (like in the military) for the good of the country. Everyone! Being in harm’s way for the good of the country should be required. Otherwise, how do we make intelligent, sober decisions? Having said that, here’s a statistic I became aware of last month: 71 percent of people between the ages of 17-24 are ineligible to join the military because of obesity, involvement in crime, lack of education or other medical issues. This, from the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation.
Sure, we’re gonna take on Russia, Iran and even Turkey in Syria. Or we’ll let Israel do our dirty work. Bibi Netanyahu reminds me of Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld on steroids. Go ahead Bibi, start a fight, the big dog will bail you out.
If you’re not disgusted you’re not paying attention. From where I sit, we’ll be in a full-blown shooting war in less than a year. Maybe two wars. And we will have no friends of significance this time. Maybe even a third war, right here at home.
