22 Reasons to Start Recycling

By: - September 5, 2018

Reduce, reuse and recycle. We have all heard of this before but do we know why the three R’s are so important today? There are so many benefits to recycling, it’s impossible to find an excuse to not do it. Here are just 22 reasons we should all be recycling everyday.

1. Saves Energy

It takes less energy to make a product that is made from recycled materials because it doesn’t need to be made out of new materials. New or raw materials require more processing than recycled materials.

2. Reduces Landfills

[in_content_ad]

Recycling will reduce the need and size of landfills. Landfills can cause hazardous waste and can contaminate soil with toxic leachate.

3. Preserves Resources and Protects Wildlife

[in_content_ad_ora]

When we recycle, we can help save animals because there is less need to destroy animals habitats or homes.

4. Good for the Economy

[in_content_ad]

Buying recycled products creates a higher demand for more recycled products. Purchasing recycled items uses less water and energy as well as creates less pollution too.

5. Helps Control Climate Problems

[in_content_ad]

Recycling greatly reduces carbon emissions. Recycling paper saves trees which can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This can help with the climate problems that are currently happening all around the world.

6. Prevents Resource Destruction

[in_content_ad]

Recycling can help prevent resource destruction. This is because recycling reuses old materials compared to needing to use and process new materials.

7. Prevents Pollution

[in_content_ad]

Recycling helps prevent pollution because there is less mining for metals and harvesting trees. This saves a lot of energy that could be used to help make new products from new materials instead of reusing old materials which than helps prevent pollution.

8. Saves Money

[in_content_ad]

If you are interested in saving some money, recycling is an easy way to help. There are a lot of places that pay for different recycled materials. Recycling also saves money because you don’t need to buy as much stuff as you have in the past when you find different ways to reuse things you already have.

9. Creates Jobs

[in_content_ad]

If people start recycling more often, than more recycling plants would need to be built which means they would need to hire several people to run the recycling plant.

10. Current Use is Not Sustainable

[in_content_ad]

We are consuming so much more resources than the Earth can sustain. If we continue at this rate, the Earth will no longer be able to support us and our consumption.

11. Recycling Isn’t the Only Option

[in_content_ad]

Recycling wont completely solve all the waste and emission problems, but it definitely helps a lot. Recycling isn’t the only option to consider when taking steps to help the Earth. Zero waste or low waste is another option. This means only buying things that can be reused. Such as using Tupperware compared to plastic bags or cloth napkins compared to paper napkins. There are a lot of little changes you can make that can make a big difference.

12. Global Problem

[in_content_ad]

If people keep creating waste and filling landfills, we will eventually run out of room on Earth.

13. Conserve Natural Resources

[in_content_ad]

If a lot of pressure is put on our natural resources, they might become damaged or even extinct at a quick rate.

14. Bigger Property Value

[in_content_ad]

Recycling reduces how much waste is going into landfills which means smaller landfills. If a whole community picks up the habit of recycling consistently, your city will need less landfills which will than raise the property value.

15. One Person Can Make a Difference

[in_content_ad]

Most people don’t know that so much of the stuff they throw away could just as easily be recycled. The average person produces about four pounds of trash in just one day! Almost half of that could be recycled and this would make a huge difference.

16. Technological Advances

[in_content_ad]

Everyone has become a lot more conscious about being eco-friendly so there has been a lot more technology created to become more green and environmentally friendly that is helping take care of the Earth.

17. Conserves Wildlife

[in_content_ad}

Recycling helps conserve wildlife because it takes trash or things that could be harmful to the environment to be reused instead of just tossed away.

18. Creates New Demand

[in_content_ad]

Recycling and purchasing recycled products creates a higher demand for recycled products. This would help minimize waste because of the need for recycled products compared to products from new resources.

19. Ensures Sustainable Future

[in_content_ad]

Earth has a limited amount of natural resources. Recycling helps protect those natural resources by giving old resources new life and becoming different products.

20. Waste Can Cause Deadly Disease

[in_content_ad]

Not disposing of waste properly can cause the release of toxic gases. Over time, this may lead to several diseases. The water could also be contaminated by juices from the landfill leaking into groundwater sources.

21. Maintains Groundwater Quality

[in_content_ad]

Landfills are just piles of trash that are buried underground. If there is rain water that leaks in, it can move through to larger bodies of water which will contaminate the water. Recycling will help prevent this from happening.

22. Cleaner Cities

[in_content_ad]

Recycling will result in cleaner cities. Many people don’t know where to put the different types of plastics and a lot of things that can be recycled end up on the streets. If everyone recycled the streets would be much cleaner and free of plastic.
