Europe is Not Prepared to Deal With Terrorism

By: - June 5, 2017

“European citizens are quick to hold vigils, lay flowers, light candles, and create hashtag campaigns but little else.”

Countries in Europe are asleep to the reality of Islamic terrorism.  They have yet to fully realize the war they, and the rest of the world, are fighting.  Europe lacks the understanding that terror striking their cities is not the mistake of a few people misrepresenting Islam. Europe is blind to the danger facing them and it is why attacks on innocent civilians are becoming more frequent. With the restrictions and policies the EU has adopted, they are exacerbating the threat.

Just look at this short list of Islamic terror attacks Europe has suffered recently. The following lists the numbers of people killed, the wounded numbers are in the hundreds:

Madrid 191

Amsterdam – 1

Paris – 148

Brussels – 36

Copenhagen – 2

Nice – 86

London – 65

Stockholm – 4

Berlin 12

Manchester – 22

This does not count the EU citizens killed in Bali, Sousse, Dakka, Jerusalem, Sharm-el-Sheik and Istanbul.  Hundreds have been murdered all in the name of radical Islam.  Even after 567 deaths due to this menace, Europe still closes their eyes and wishes it away. European citizens are quick to hold vigils, lay flowers, light candles, and create hashtag campaigns but little else.

Here is an interesting fact many people do not realize: in the first five months of 2017, there has been a terrorist attack attempted in Europe every nine days.

Since January, at least 45 people have been killed by Islamic terrorists, while hundreds have been injured. The only exception was the attack on the Borussia Dortmund soccer team by a Russian-German national attempting to profit from short-selling stock in the company.

Attacks and attempted attacks have taken place in Austria, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Norway, and Germany.  Just a couple years ago, the average was one attack every two years — in the last six months: Berlin, London, Stockholm, Paris and now Manchester have experienced attacks.

And it gets worse.  There are now more than twice as many British Muslims fighting for the Islamic State than there are serving in the British armed forces, according to a British Member of Parliament (MP).

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has said he believes the threat of terror attacks are “part and parcel of living in a big city” and encouraged Londoners to be vigilant to combat dangers.

This type of attitude is ludicrous and fatalistic, and the most depressing part to me is that Europe has never had the political will to go to war against ISIS and the other Jihadist groups.  Europe has conceded their countries to the radical Jihadist.  No action is taken against the ever growing number of radicalized mosques.  The welfare system pays the terrorists, and the open borders of the EU make them almost impossible to track.

Islamists have been taking over Molenbeek in Belgium, the French suburbs, and vast areas in the UK.  With the ever-increasing number of refugees coming from Europe, mainly from countries that are overrun with radicalized Islamists, the threat of terror attacks grows unabated.

Now, with ISIS losing ground in Syria and Iraq, they will be headed to Europe.  Hundreds of foreign fighters, trained in Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and elsewhere will be returning home to Europe.  They are not returning to retire quietly and start farming; they are returning to continue the fight and create as much havoc as possible.

After the attacks in London this weekend, Prime Minister May very pointedly said:

“It is an ideology that claims our Western values of freedom, democracy, and human rights are incompatible with the religion of Islam. It is an ideology that is a perversion of Islam and a perversion of the truth. Defeating this ideology is one of the great challenges of our time, but it cannot be defeated by military intervention alone. It will not be defeated by the maintenance of a permanent defensive counter-terrorism operation, however skillful its leaders and practitioners.

It will only be defeated when we turn people’s minds away from this violence and make them understand that our values – pluralistic British values – are superior to anything offered by the preachers and supporters of hate.

Second, we cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed. Yet that is precisely what the internet, and the big companies that provide Internet-based services provide.

We need to work with allied democratic governments to reach international agreements that regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremist and terrorism planning. And we need to do everything we can at home to reduce the risks of extremism online.

Third, while we need to deprive the extremists of their safe spaces online, we must not forget about the safe spaces that continue to exist in the real world. Yes, that means taking military action to destroy ISIS in Iraq and Syria. But it also means taking action here at home.

While we have made significant progress in recent years, there is – to be frank – far too much tolerance of extremism in our country. So we need to become far more robust in identifying it and stamping it out across the public sector and across society. That will require some difficult, and often embarrassing, conversations.

But the whole of our country needs to come together to take on this extremism, and we need to live our lives, not in a series of separated, segregated communities, but as one truly United Kingdom.

Fourth, we have a robust counter-terrorism strategy, which has proved successful over many years. But as the nature of the threat we face becomes more complex, more fragmented, more hidden, especially online, the strategy needs to keep up.”

British Prime Minister May called it like it is.  There is no room to tolerate the violent and radical ideology that is Radical Islam.

Europe had better  wake up.  The returning fighters will strike.  The many thousands of radicalized Islamists in Europe will form political parties and vote for radical Islamic members of Parliament in their respective countries.  Europe as we know it will cease to exist.  It will become the next Islamic State.
