Do you watch the news these days and feel distressed about the American justice system? With a major political party publicly flouting law enforcement and subverting criminal justice, how can Americans not feel distressed? You could stop watching the news. Then you could allow yourself to sink into political awareness oblivion, replacing frustrating distress with blissful ignorance.
But that’s what the left wants—for you to shut up and not pay attention. Thomas Jefferson warned us to be eternally vigilant against encroachment on our liberty. Vigilance is not only necessary but also our duty.
Unfortunately, vigilance makes my head want to explode when I hear about Hillary Clinton’s no-ramification misdeeds. The few media people I still trust continually point to justice eventually catching up with Clinton et al. But even trustworthy journalists and commentators seem to recycle the same promising headlines. With no justice in sight.
Distress waned and a bit of hope enveloped me when I read an in-depth, well-attributed article by Jeff Carlson in The Epoch Times (Feb. 28–Mar. 6, 2019 edition): “DOJ Prevented FBI From Charging Clinton With Gross Negligence.” Carlson details the collaboration (collusion?) between the FBI and the DOJ to assure Hillary Clinton would never trade in her pantsuit for an orange jumpsuit.
The testimonies of various infamous FBI officials reveal Attorney General Loretta Lynch “decided to set an unusually high threshold for prosecuting Clinton, effectively ensuring from the outset that she would not be charged [in the email server debacle].”
Now we know that a United States Secretary of State could set up an unauthorized email server, delete 33K emails, possess 1,200 classified emails, 22 of them Top Secret, and the justice system doesn’t hold her accountable. President Obama’s DOJ wouldn’t allow it.
In fact, during her July 2018 congressional testimony, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page said, “Everybody talks about this as if this was the FBI investigation, and the truth of the matter is there was not a single step, other than the July 5th [Comey “exonerates” Clinton] statement, there was not a single investigative step that we did not do in consultation with or at the direction of the Justice Department.”
Knowing all this, Hillary Clinton (Comey, Clapper, McCabe, Brennan, etc.) continues to give speeches in which she (they) pontificates about ethics, morality, and justice in America. Could anyone possibly be that enormously devoid of self-awareness?
Much of Carlson’s reporting focuses on DOJ and FBI officials pretending the “intent” standard exists where it does not. The law doesn’t require intent to charge Gross Negligence. Of course not. Negligence presupposes intent isn’t a necessary element, right? Some people, without intent, which I doubt was the case here, are so careless, so grossly negligent, their actions rise to the level of crime without having to prove intent.
Using negligence as a standard rather than intent, considering what we know and suspect, is a gift. Negligence is still giving Clinton the benefit of the doubt of a lesser charge than she probably deserves. Nevertheless, Clinton et al. dodge prosecution anyway. Distressing is actually putting it mildly, when I think about it.
About negligence, Ms. Page also testified, “Let’s assume things are going swimmingly and, in fact, all 17 of those witnesses admit, ‘We did it, it was on purpose, we totally wanted to mishandle classified information,’ gross negligence would still have been off the table because of the department’s [DOJ] assessment that it was vague.” Yeah, the only reason it was “vague” was because of who was under the lightbulb’s glare: Hillary Clinton and her crew.
And, if nothing else indicts the Democrat cabal that worked so hard to insulate Hillary Clinton from prosecution, here’s Carlson’s final blow: except for three people, “every individual from the FBI and DOJ mentioned [in the article] has either been fired or has resigned.”
President Obama, trying to defend his administration’s massive corruption, said, “Nobody in my administration got indicted.” Well, no kidding! How could they? With his politically loyal AGs Holder and Lynch heading the DOJ aided by his flunky FBI officials (Comey and McCabe), how could anyone working in Obama’s administration ever be prosecuted never mind convicted—of anything?
Least of all Secretary Clinton. There’s something else that’s curious, though. Hillary is infamously not all that likeable—even her own supporters say so. President Obama, during their 2008 primary contest, backhandedly said Hillary was “likable enough.” Doesn’t it make you wonder how she attracts such loyalty? Or maybe it doesn’t.
