Yesterday it was announced that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been awarded the 2019 Profile in Courage Award by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. Her noted accomplishments include becoming the first female House Speaker, for the first time in sixty years being elected to non-consecutive terms as Speaker, and blah, blah, blah.
It’s a tribute that fits the Democratic Party’s devotion to leftist sexism and the to longevity of the political class. But more so, it’s hilarious because of the source of the honor.
To applaud a woman for being Speaker just on the basis of her gender makes gender a qualifying factor in itself. That used to be called bigotry, in modern parlance (which I loathe), sexism. Nevertheless, apparently we must tell those upcoming Socialist Suzies out there that you will be honored and lionized (lionessized?) because of the chance genetic lottery involved in the distribution of your chromosomes. Anything you may achieve as an individual? Nahhh. Prefer to judge you on your probable urination position, thanks. And if sexism is okay, can we repeal the 19th Amendment, pretty please? I mean, if sexism is all hunky dory and everything.
Another dead giveaway is, when commenting upon the spurious accolade, Pelosi referenced that she had met JFK when she was a young woman and her dad was, uh-huh, Mayor of Baltimore. Isn’t that just keen? Political Princess Nancy opines favorably on the aristo hereditary principle in Democratic Party politics. Though, as we know from relatively recent debacles, not only the Dems suffer from that practice and related maladies.
But my fave aspect is the award itself.
We’ll put aside for the moment the rum running and mob connections that made the Kennedy family prominent in the first place. In fact, give them credit for the bootlegging. The mirth concerns the name of the thing. You see, Jack Kennedy did not write “Profiles in Courage.” His chief wordsmith Ted Sorensen did. However, that did not stop the then-Massachusetts senator from accepting a Pulitzer Prize for it.
So, an award not based on merit but gender, given to a hereditary member of the political class, given to her by other hereditary members of the same class, based on a book with false authorship and subsequent illegitimate praise of the non-author.
Gee, Pelosi must be so proud.
