“Everything is considered discrimination in this day and age.”
A Catholic hospital in Sacramento, California is facing a lawsuit from the ACLU over its refusal to perform a hysterectomy as part of sex reassignment surgery. Evan Michael Minton, who was born a woman, sought to receive a hysterectomy from Dignity Health’s Mercy San Juan Medical Center. The hospital released a statement in light of the lawsuit threats saying, “We do not provide elective sterilizations at Dignity Health’s Catholic facilities in accordance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and the medical staff bylaws.”
According to Minton’s defense, refusing to perform a hysterectomy was a clear-cut case of discrimination by the hospital because Minton is transgender. For the life of me, I can’t understand why a member of the LGBT would seek treatment in a private facility rooted in Christianity. This reminds me of a time when the LGBT community became up-in-arms when a user posted a photograph that depicted two men making out on a Christian family’s Facebook page and the photo was subsequently deleted.
Of course, many religious people don’t believe in the LGBT lifestyle. With this knowledge, Minton should have gone to a different facility to begin with, as he received the surgery three days later elsewhere. He could have initially chosen a different facility, instead of choosing to blast a Catholic hospital for being Catholic.
Dignity Health said that they would provide one of their non-Catholic facilities for Minton’s use. Yet there is still so much distress over Milton being refused that a lawsuit is necessary… Why? The surgery was performed, so the case should be closed.
Why has it become okay to force issues on religious folks? I wouldn’t expect a Catholic facility to accommodate other controversial situations, such as performing abortions. I support the LGBT community, but I also support those with religious beliefs who refuse to participate in acts that are not congruent with their religion. Such hostility has been presented to groups that are conservative and religious, and it’s getting out of hand.
A lawsuit is pointless, considering that Minton has received the surgery and should move on. The ACLU has gotten so combatant lately that they’re literally seeking out cases in the farthest reaches of the United States. Making a mountain out of a molehill only illustrates the one-sided argument for tolerance that extreme liberals have been pushing. It’s acceptable to pursue a lawsuit against a religious hospital for its beliefs, yet it’s widely known that Christians have beliefs against operations such as sex reassignment surgery. There are so many individuals who want to become victims of their own circumstances.
While the ACLU seeks to garner national attention and chase its agenda, I can’t help but roll my eyes. Everything is considered discrimination in this day and age.
