Andrew Gillum: Cops Who Draw Guns Have Already Gone ‘Too Far’

By: - November 3, 2018

The one positive thing I can say about the left is they do conservatives a favor by so often providing proof of their radical, insane positions on political issues. Here’s an example: Florida Democrat gubernatorial candidate and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum has validated a contention I’ve been making for years.

My contention: According to the left, if a police incident results in an officer having to use force, including drawing a firearm, it’s the cop and not the criminal who’s failed. Any cop will tell you some people just don’t want to go to jail—no, really—and they’ll do just about anything not to go. Imagine that!

Gillum’s validation: Molly Prince, for The Daily Caller News Foundation, writes about an interview on Pod Save America where Gillum defended himself as not “anti-police” but for “police accountability.” But Gillum also said, “At the time that a law enforcement official has to go to a weapon, to a gun, to a baton, to a taser, they have already had to go too far.”

This is one of the most ignorant and dangerous statements I’ve ever heard from a politician, and that’s saying something. It is devoid of reality and saturated with radical leftist ideology.

The comments came during a discussion about rumors that Gillum had signed a “Freedom Pledge” authored by the extreme leftist Dream Defenders (DD). At the DD website, you’ll find several so-called “Freedom Papers.” One of those papers is titled “Freedom from Prisons and Police.” No, that isn’t too radical, now, is it?

And, if the title doesn’t convince you their stances are extreme, how about this? DD wants an “immediate banning of bail and probation and reinvestment of the money spent on prisons and police into social services in our community that address the root causes of poverty and violence.” What could possibly go wrong with that plan?

During an Oct. 21st debate with Gillum’s opponent Rep. Ron DeSantis, the Republican brought up the pledge issue. Gillum responded he had, “no idea what pledge he [DeSantis] is talking about.” However, Prince writes that Floridapolitics.com has confirmed Gillum has signed the pledge.

Over three dozen Florida sheriffs are urging Gillum to withdraw his support for the Freedom Pledge and the anti-cop DD, “immediately and unequivocally.” This is a powerful sign from Florida’s elected law enforcement officials Gillum is wrong for the state.

Does it matter that Gillum denied he’d signed such a pledge? Even if he hadn’t, it’s easy to understand how anyone could mistake his connection with the radical Marxist group and their lunatic pledge. Still, it seems, in light of Floridapolitics.com’s confirmation, Gillum’s denying he’d signed the pledge may be a bit of a fib. But, considering the nature of the socialist mayor’s other legal predicaments, that’s not too hard to believe, is it?

It astounds me so many people in America are voting for these radical leftists: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York), Kshama Sawant (Washington State), and Andrew Gillum (Florida) to mention only a few. Are they winning because some communities contain so many hard-left voters? That might be part of it. But I wonder if something else is at play.

I wonder if part of the blame may be with conservatives and Republicans who have bought into the idea that their views don’t matter because there are too few of them in leftist cities to make a difference in an election. But is that true?

How many conservatives or even moderates in cities infested with intolerant, bullying leftists are afraid to speak out? Instead, pretending to go along, nodding and mumbling their reluctant consent so not to irk the ire and risk the wrath of an offended progressive. Perhaps more than you think.

I encourage conservative, constitutional thinkers to trust that there are more people out there, yes even in liberal enclaves, who think much as you do. But they, like you, are afraid of speaking their minds because leftists are so intolerant and vicious in their rhetoric and responses to people who disagree with them. But the left will continue to dominate and exude more influence than they actually merit, if conservative folks continue to sublimate how they feel, permitting leftists to get away with their political bullying tactics.

Stand up for yourselves. Stand up for American liberty. If you don’t, how can you complain when the left continues to dominate the political conversation and enforces narrowminded, political correctness and social justice on you and what used to be your country?
