Are the Governmental COVID-19 Mandates in Our Best Interest?

By: - April 6, 2021

I have been watching and studying government reactions, mandates, executive orders, and every other bit of nonsense in relation to COVID-19 as I am able, both within the United States and around the world.  There seems to be a very common occurrence, which is that no matter what action a government partakes and enforces, this virus spreads, mutates, and spreads again, over and over.  Another round of surges has begun in France, Germany, Colombia, and other places.  The new director for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning of “impending doom” with the coming of another possible surge.

The country of France seems to have begun an inane set of COVID-19 counter measures.  Their government, under the inept Emmanuel Macron, has mandated another nationwide lock down.  For four weeks, they intend to close all schools and “non-essential” stores, enforce a curfew from 7:00 P.M. until 6:00 A.M., and restrict travel to less than 10 kilometers, without a “valid” reason.  That travel distance is from the person’s home.  It seems for the government of France to enforce the mandate, people will have to carry a valid identification that would include a place of residence.  All this time, I thought the people of France were falling in line with their government’s face mask and other COVID-19 “protection” mandates.  There is a possibility that those mandates have little impact regarding the spread of a virus.

Here in the U.S., our government is not doing any better.  It is my belief that what our government is doing is making the situation worse.  It is well understood that COVID-19 attacks the elderly and those with severe chronic respiratory and circulation system disorders.  People with any of or combination of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and/or hypertension (high blood pressure) appear to be most at risk.  These conditions are often associated with obesity that is a result of excessive caloric intake and lack of physical activity.  Over forty percent of the American adult population are considered obese, with percentage variations depending on race, ethnicity, gender, and cultural differences.  It should be noted that the percentage of obesity in our youth is also becoming alarmingly high.

It seems to me that our government is handling COVID-19 almost all wrong.  They have been creating situations that stifle physical activity and lead to behaviors that will bring forth more obesity: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and/or hypertension.  COVID will be with us a long time, it will continue to attack people with these conditions no matter what miracle vaccine is produced.  It is time to ask the question from a point-of-view other than economic, are the governmental COVID-19 mandates in our best interest?

I am not a doctor, but I have come to believe that an osteopathic medical approach (osteopathic medicine emphasizes the interrelated unity of all systems) might be a much better method of dealing with COVID and the coming viruses in our future.
