Dear Hollywood: We Don’t Care About Your Politics.

As court jesters of old, our actors, singers and other entertainers get paid to entertain…

In the months leading up to the election of President Trump, and subsequently after he was sworn in, we have witnessed a never-ending stream of Hollywood celebrities using their platform to tell the rest of us how to feel and what to do. These days, award shows are less about the shows, music, and awards than they are about the thirty second spot that a winner or presenter gets to be able to talk about how much is wrong with the United States and its political system.

What I do not understand is why these overpaid snowflakes think that we, the general public, care one bit that they do not like our current President or his executive orders. For that matter, why do we care that many of them have promised repeatedly to “move out of the country” if President Trump was elected? I am still waiting for them to keep their word on that one. But the one thing that I think about most is how in the world did someone who holds a position that used to be equal to that of the “Court Jester,” and was the laughing stock of the royal courts and noble residences around Europe, evolve into what these celebrities think they are today?

We place them on a high pedestal and it has led them to think that they are above the rest of us. Maybe their money is one of the things that makes them feel like it gives them the right or need to share their political views with those of us that actually work for a living. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, and few of them realize they are no more important than the guy delivering newspapers early in the morning, but that is a rarity.

As court jesters of old, our actors, singers and other entertainers get paid to entertain, not politicize or advocate. They are paid to make believe they are someone else. When they are on some stage somewhere waxing about what they think our newest President is or is not doing correctly, what makes them think we give it any more credence than we did to the ideas of the Court Jesters of old?

So, to all the Court Jesters out there, we really don’t care what you think.  Period.  All you are doing is making it less likely that people like myself will spend our hard-earned money to watch or listen to you. What do you think will happen if the same people that voted for our new President decided to no longer buy movie tickets or listen to your music? You would lose the very position you are in, so knock it off and get back to being the court jester you’re supposed to be. We don’t care what you believe, only that you make us laugh, cry, and help us have fun in escaping reality for just a brief moment. We don’t want to listen to you spout it.
