Working Against the U.S. Government, and Abandoning What is Right.
Democrats are calling for President Trump to release a transcript of his recent meeting in the Oval Office with two Russian officials where the press has published he reportedly revealed classified information.
The Administration officials at the meeting, not anonymous sources, say nothing of the sort happened. The meeting was with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
Both National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and Press Secretary Sean Spicer briefed reporters on Tuesday. “We don’t say what’s classified, what’s not classified,” McMaster said. “I can say again that what was shared was wholly appropriate. The president in no way compromised any sources or methods in the course of this conversation.”
Sen. Chuck Schumer said that “if there’s nothing to hide” then a transcript should be released. “Until the administration fully explains the facts of this case, the American people will rightly doubt if their president can handle our nation’s most closely kept secrets.”
If anyone has any grasp of our system of justice, Senator Schumer’s comment should raise all sorts of red flags. He is throwing the “innocent before being proven guilty” doctrine that has been the bedrock of our way of life out the window to make political points. It is wrong and misguided.
The President can release and declassify information as he wants. OpsLens contributor and retired CIA operations officer Luis Rueda made that extremely clear. He said “As President, Trump had, and has, the legal right to declassify information and reveal classified information to his heart’s content. He is the ultimate classifying authority.”
The calling for the transcripts, items that the Democrats do not even know exist, is nonsensical. How can a President operate if he is not allowed to speak, hold meetings, or talk privately without some opposing politicization? Particularly if the one demanding it has publicly said they will oppose anything the President does or any appointment he puts forward. Bottom line: Senator Chuck Schumer is not working in the country’s best interest.
It is time to call it like it is. We have a duly elected government. We have a system of checks and balances that work. The sooner the losing side realizes that working to undermine the sitting government of the United States is not helping anyone, the better off we will be.
Such activity is tantamount to subversiveness and destructive to our way of life. When politicians proclaim they are part of the resistance as Hillary Clinton did just the other day, they are part of what is wrong, not what is right.
Obstructionism is wrong. It is juvenile and is the worst part of politics. I know obstructionism, working to undermine and hinder the President’s agenda, hold up anything the elected party is trying to do, will never rise to the legal definition of treasonous, but in my mind it is one and the same.
The task of our elected officials is to help the government govern and push forward those goals that are in the best interest of our nation, not actively work against them just because of the letter R or D is attached to the sitting official. What is happening now is sickening.
