Hometown Heckles Sen. Dianne Feinstein at Town Hall Meeting for Not Being Liberal Enough

By: - April 18, 2017

“The irony is that rarely are the Trump supporters initiating such hatred.”

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein found herself booed and heckled by the audience of the town hall meeting she conducted in her own hometown of San Francisco. Perhaps one of the most influential Democrats in California, Feinstein was sorely mistaken if she was expecting a warm welcome from constituents in her hometown. Among their grievances, they were upset that Sen. Feinstein hasn’t taken a tougher stance against President Donald Trump.

Many insisted that she address President Trump’s policies and refer to him as “fascist” because they disagree with him. Sen. Feinstein tried to explain to the crowd that a single member of the House or Senate’s minority party cannot change political directions alone. She also received loud boos when she stated that she supported President Trump’s missile strike on Syria.

I guess unless a person is completely militant against the president of the United States, they won’t get cordial treatment in California. It baffles me that Sen. Feinstein cannot even address her hometown without facing incredibly belligerent constituents attending under the guise of discussion in an open forum. Raucous town hall meetings have been happening across the United States since the election, many featuring protestors who are strongly against President Trump. Certain meetings have even had to be shut down because those in attendance became too loud and angry to continue in a productive manner.

While it’s understandable that citizens utilize town hall meetings to address concerns, I find it incredibly counterproductive to use that time with elected officials to make a scene that won’t change anything at the end of the day. I’m going to venture to say far fewer people voted than are shown in the streets protesting President Trump’s footsteps and the air he breathes. Sen. Feinstein even had to face anti-war protesters who screamed above her as she spoke.

The fact that Democrats are being treated this way in California is quite concerning. It’s already been widely reported that whenever something political occurs in California, riots and violence are sure to break out. The irony is that rarely are the Trump supporters initiating such hatred. The behavior exhibited at the town hall meeting isn’t something San Francisco should be proud of. As a supposed safe haven for minority groups like the LGBT community, it’s almost unbelievable that this sort of behavior is common.

The only message yelling and screaming sends is one of dominance and intimidation. Either fall in line with every single far-left individual’s interests and beliefs or be attacked in one way or another. A so-called activist from Berkeley (surprise, surprise) even stood in front of the stage while Sen. Feinstein was speaking and held up a sign that read, “Barbara Lee for Senate 2018.”

It’s been made clear that supporting President Trump is a dangerous thing to do in the state of California. Hopefully sometime in the near future, residents there can become more tolerant of those who have different beliefs. I won’t hold my breath, though.
