King County to Ban ICE Detainee Flights

By: - April 25, 2019

People know King County Executive Dow Constantine for a lot of things, few of them good. The RINO-turned-Dem supports legalized heroin dens (he calls them safe injection sites). Yeah, as if injecting poison into your veins is ever safe. He endorses sanctuary county policies. And he’s also largely responsible for the druggie-vagabond blight affecting many areas of King County. Though not as bad (they’re working on it), the county seems to be trying to compete with Seattle for the title of worst local government in Washington State.

Now mynorthwest.com reports Constantine is adding to his resumé by issuing an executive order banning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) flights used to transport illegal alien criminal detainees to and from King County International Airport (Boeing Field). Giving his lefty supporters a Churchillian chill down their spines, I’m sure Constantine declared, “Here in King County, we are a welcoming community that respects the rights of all people.”

I respect the rights of all people, too. But I’m trying to find the people’s right to break immigration law, break another law to get arrested, and then to not have law enforcement take them into custody and transport them. Nope, not finding those details while flippin’ through my nifty little “real rights” handbook. The one that contains the true right of Americans not to have illegal aliens take or destroy their stuff, assault, or kill them.

Constantine continued. “My executive order seeks to make sure all those who do business with King County uphold the same values. Our goal is to ban flights of immigrant detainees from our publicly-owned airport, and I hope members of Congress shine a light on this practice and how it is currently funded.”

Wait… Perhaps I need to take a different look at this issue. According to the county exec, ICE is detaining immigrants. What a horrible practice. Congress should “shine a light on this,” right? My mother was an immigrant. It sure would have upset me if customs and border patrol agents had snatched her up, detained her, put her on a plane, and had jetted her away—probably to some black site where she’d be forced to help with the children locked up in cages. Yeah, right.

But hold on. That’s not what’s happening, is it? Constantine left out one little word in front of “immigrant,” and that important word is illegal. Something the left loves to do. ICE agents are not transporting “immigrant detainees,” are they? No. ICE is transporting illegal immigrant detainees who have committed another crime—maybe several. Isn’t it remarkable how one little word can change the meaning of an entire sentence, of an entire concept?

Admittedly, a lot of Constantine’s drivel is self-serving, virtue-signaling political bluster. Something he’s superb at. However, since the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controls the airspace and the county does not require ICE to file flight schedules or passenger manifests, I guess he’ll need to polish his crystal ball. And the order doesn’t affect SeaTac International Airport, which is only a few miles south down Interstate 5.

But learning about ICE’s flight schedules and manifests won’t be necessary, will it? Constantine’s goal isn’t to stop anything; his goal is to appear to leftist sycophants as if that’s what he’s doing. So, good on ya, county exec. You’ve accomplished your goal and, fortunately, not much else—except for looking foolish to sane people.
