“Ladies and gentlemen, my millennials, stay woke.”
By Jenni Fink, IJR:
On Saturday, people gathered in Washington D.C. to protest President Donald Trump’s unwillingness to release his tax returns.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) opened her speech at the Tax March with a strong declaration about the president:
“I don’t respect this president. I don’t trust this president. He’s not working in the best interests of the American people.”
She assured marchers that she will “fight every day until he is impeached,” and led the crowd in multiple rounds of an “impeach 45” chant.
According to The Hill, she called on the president to “show the people your taxes,” to “stop stonewalling,” and “stop hiding.” Waters criticized Trump’s tax-reform plan and claimed that it would benefit the one percent “on the backs of millions of already struggling Americans.”
While she blasted his tax plan, she asserted that he did know one thing about taxes and said:
“Donald Trump, you sure know how to spend our taxes on your weekly trips to Mar-A-Lago.”
Waters reminded protesters to “not forget” who the president is and claimed that he will not change. Her speech ended with a statement to the younger generation:
“Ladies and gentlemen, my millennials, stay woke.”
The veteran congresswoman has been an outspoken critic of Trump and has called for his impeachment on multiple occasions.
