Open Borders Activists Throw ‘Day Without Facts and Logic’

By Eddie Zipperer, LifeZette:

Thursday, progressives across the nation came together to protest the Trump administration and what they perceive to be unfair policies on immigration. The protests were dubbed “A Day Without Immigrants,” but a more apt description would have been “A Day Without Facts and Logic.”

Of course, when it comes to progressive arguments on immigration, every day is a day without facts and logic. If progressive immigration philosophy were a salad, facts, figures, existing laws, and the Constitution would be the vegetables — the part they don’t want to taste — while nonsensical anti-logic would be the rich, delicious dressing that makes it palatable to the uninformed liberal agitators.

You know, the types who allow themselves to be organized by the Barack Obamas of the world. One protester held a sign reading, “We the people are all immigrants.” Another read, “Immigrants make America great.” Those are just variations of the oft-parroted, eye-roll-inducing liberal cliché that all Americans come from immigrants.

President Donald Trump and all other conservatives know this. No American with more than five watts of brainpower is actually anti-immigrant. Everything would be so much easier for progressives if conservatives were anti-immigrant.

Then, facts, logic, and morality would be all on their side. Instead, we get the big progressive lie. The never-ending straw-man argument which forms the first leg of what I call “the tripod of nonsense” that holds up the liberal immigration philosophy.

Without it, the entire philosophy would come crashing down on them. Here’s the first piece of illogical analysis one must accept as true in order to support progressive immigration philosophy: the big progressive immigration lie is that immigration and illegal immigration are the same thing.

That’s right. Progressive logic (an oxymoron if there ever was one) dictates that if you found a sponsor, petitioned for entry, filled out all the paperwork, got vetted by the U.S. government, and were legally permitted to enter the United States, you are no different from a person who came here illegally.

Hillary Clinton, who has professed that she dreams of open borders, used this tactic ad nauseam during her dismal 2016 presidential campaign.

Thursday’s protests — and the entire liberal practice of lumping legal immigrants and illegal immigrants into one group — should be deeply offensive to immigrants who came here legally.

The next piece of illogical analysis forming the tripod of nonsense is that the poem engraved on the Statue of Liberty is official U.S. immigration policy trumping all laws set by Congress and Lady Liberty herself is a rabid advocate for open borders.

Many attending “A Day Without Immigrants” protests dressed like the statue, who has been appropriated by the progressive open-border activists. In progressive mythology, the poem on the Statue of Liberty supersedes Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution. So, there’s no need for Congress to make any immigration laws at all.

When President Trump signed an executive order halting travelers from seven war-torn hotbeds of Islamic jihadism, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tweeted: “There are tears running down the cheeks of the Statue of Liberty” while several Hollywood know-nothings Tweeted pictures of the statue crying.

Here’s some breaking news for liberals: the Statue of Liberty is not a founding document. The line “Give me your tired, your poor/Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” has been ratified by zero states and voted on by zero members of Congress.

And thanks to the forethought of the framers, poets from the 19th century aren’t a branch of our government, and their poems do not have the power to supersede legislation passed by the U.S. Congress. Still, modern-day liberals, channeling the dreams of Hillary Clinton, love to pretend the statue is a symbol of America’s open borders and that her poem is official U.S. policy.

Finally, the last leg of the tripod of nonsense, progressives desperately need Americans to believe that American immigration policies are a draconian nightmare. The only problem with that is we’re already one of the most welcoming countries on Earth.

The U.S. has very generous immigration laws. That’s how hundreds of thousands of people are able to immigrate to the U.S. every year. On top of that, we offer citizenship jus soli, which means if you are born on U.S. soil, you are a U.S. citizen no matter who your parents are or how you ended up on U.S. soil.

There are only 33 countries on this Earth that offer jus soli citizenship, and of those 33 countries, not a single one admits more immigrants per year than the United States. Here’s a list of all the developed nations in the world that offer it: 1. The United States 2. Canada. End of list.

Now, here’s a list of all the developed nations in the world who share a border with a developing nation and still offer citizenship jus soli:

1) The United States.

Noticeably absent from this list is every country in the world not named the United States of America. The morally superior world leaders who’ve criticized Trump and patted themselves on the back for being human welcoming mats represent countries that have much less generous citizenship laws than the United States.

Perhaps President Trump should pressure countries like Sweden, Germany, France, and the Netherlands to be as accepting as the United States.

If progressives called their “Day Without Immigrants” what it really is, “A Day of Protests in Support of Immigrants Who Are Here Illegally,” they would likely find fewer people willing to costume-up, bedazzle a pithy sign, and march around the city all day.

They could throw a big day-long bash for police or firefighters instead, but a day without them would wreck the country.
