Opinion: The Trump Opposition Has Lost Their Collective Minds.

By: - July 21, 2017

“Getting into the weeds even further, the Democrats are going after the lease on the old post office building where the new Trump hotel was constructed for a ‘possible’ violation of a clause in the lease.”

If you have watched any news channel, read any news blog, or even peeked out from under the rock you have been hiding under for cover, you know the disdain some have for President Trump.  It is palatable, it is omnipresent, and the mainstream media and pundits are circling like sharks hoping for some tidbit to be dropped into the water. It is shocking just how far it has gone.

I remember the classic movie “Network.”  In a famous scene, the news caster screams out the window “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.”  That is where Americans need to be.  We need our politicians to stop this infighting and get on with the job of running the country. If they’re unable to do so, they need to be replaced at the very next election.  We as Americans have a voice, and it is high time our politicians started listening.  We do not change things through screaming, marching, or violence — we vote.  That is how it works.

On July 14th, the House Democrats held a press conference titled, Oversight Initiative to Hold the Trump Administration Accountable.  If you saw this press conference, one thing and one thing only was clear.  The House Democrats, under Nancy Pelosi’s leadership, are going to do anything and everything they can to derail the current President.

In essence, this is what happened.  Representative after Representative, all Democrats, submitted resolutions to demand information.  Each subcommittee they were on demanded the Trump administration to produce each and every record of private conversations, each and every email, tweet, document, record of any meetings, and all records of the President’s finances.  They want records of all his holdings and all of his family’s holdings, past and present.  They were demanding all this information regardless of whether a family member, or even business acquaintance, was in the administration or not.  These would include all periods of time before, during, and after the campaign.

Getting into the weeds even further, the Democrats are going after the lease on the old post office building where the new Trump hotel was constructed for a “possible” violation of a clause in the lease.  That lease was legally approved by the GSA.  In a letter issued by the GSA contracting officer, Kevin M. Terry, he stated, “based on my review of the Lease, discussions with Tenant, and documents submitted by Tenant.  I have determined the Tenant is in full compliance with section 37.19 and, accordingly, the Lease is valid and in full force and effect.”  But that isn’t enough for those opposing the President; it is not the answer they wanted.

If you had received the go ahead, permits, and so on, after extensive legal review, wouldn’t you think your project was okay?  Of course.  This is just a small example of the time, effort, and people’s money being wasted, all in an attempt to punish or remove a sitting President when there is no evidence he has done anything wrong.  It is politics at its worst, and the American people should be fed up with it.

They want a billionaire to give away all his businesses and investments.  They expect the President to divest from all that he has worked for his entire life, so that there will be no “perceived” conflict of interest.  Would you do that?  Would they?  Would you throw away a life of work, one that was not legally dubious, so that you could spend four years in a relatively low paying job?

And this is a point I want to make extremely clear.  Those that oppose the Trump Presidency are calling for all sorts of investigations to see “if” there is something wrong.  Not that there is a crime to investigate, but to see if they can find one.

Would you as a citizen stand for the government looking into everything you have ever done?  Is it correct for the government to demand that you provide information on everyone you have ever had a conversation with? Every email, and tweet you have ever sent?  Is it right to subject all your business dealings, associations, friends, and records to endless investigations to “see if” you might have done something wrong?  All this without a single criminal charge or allegation based on any real facts?

That is not our justice system.  We are not guilty before proven innocent.  Did the politicians behind this effort miss that part of the Constitution?  It is in the 6th Amendment if they need reminding.

We now have the revelation that one of the people at the Donald Trump Jr. meeting was once in the Soviet Military almost thirty years ago.  The news media made a big deal about a former “Russian Intelligence Officer” at the meeting.  This guy has been in the US for over 20 years as a registered lobbyist.  According to his statements, he was in the Soviet Military for two years 1986 to 1988 — he was drafted, as was just about everyone else back then.  He was assigned to a GRU unit that was involved in law enforcement and counterintelligence.

For that matter, when I was in the US Army, I was assigned to a unit that also did law enforcement and counterintelligence.  The Soviet unit I dealt with were border guards, and they were GRU.  That does not make a person a spy.

How many people over the last 20 or so years were in the US military?  Are they to be looked at differently if they have any dealings or meetings in their course of employment with a person from another country?   Have you ever met someone from a different country?  Maybe that should be investigated, just in case.  Can you see how silly this has become?

Then there is Russia.  Russia this, Russia that.  CNN just about destroyed themselves over the Russia storyline.  They continue the narrative even without any real evidence.  Nevertheless, they continue to push their agenda, even when they must make it up.  The FBI, the Senate Sub-Committees, even the local dog catcher seems to have all “investigated” the Trump-Russia connection for over a year and have found what?  Nothing.

The “Evidence” outlined by those pushing this narrative is what?  News reports and leaks from anonymous people, stories that are poorly sourced, or false reports in the media.  They use a shady report that cannot be verified, one paid for by those working against the President, as proof of some grand conspiracy.  It is ridiculous.

The analogy is simple.  Someone says they heard you say something.  It was about something they think you might have done.  Maybe it could be a crime, but they are not sure.  As far as they are concerned, you must be investigated, and of course, you are guilty of whatever it might be.  Really?  Would you stand for that?

Where has common sense gone?  When a person becomes an elected official do they just forget everything?  Do they just lose their minds?  More likely they throw ethics out the window and follow the party line like lemmings.

Finally, the most important point is this.  Our elected officials were put in place to do the people’s business.  They are to operate and work to put forward the government in the best way possible.  What is happening now, with one party saying it will resist, obstruct, and stop the other at every juncture, is nothing other than working against the American people.

For a party, either party, to make it their mission to halt everything the elected President tries to do is wrong.  It’s only because he is on the other side, or is not the candidate they wanted, or because he is not “politics as usual” . They are not working in the best interest of the American people as a nation.

What do you call it when people actively work against the elected government?  Resistance?  No, it is called subversion or sedition.  It is not treason, not legally, but it is treasonous.  It is not cooperation, it’s obstructionism.

The election is over.  Fighting against an elected President is not the way good government operates.  We are not some “Banana Republic” that revolts when an election does not go the way a group wants.

After over a year of hearings, investigation, innuendoes, slanted press (both ways), hidden and not so hidden agendas, there is no evidence the election was anything other than fair and correct.  It is time to get on with the business of government.  Working to undermine the President is working to undermine the nation and the American people, and it must stop.
