President Trump Helps Out Marine, Shows His Respect for Military

Tonight on his way back from Germany while getting onto Marine One, President Trump did something that I have never seen any other President do in the past.

As President Trump approached Marine One, one of the Marines who stands guard at the door and salutes the President when he boards and leaves the helicopter, had his cover (military for hat) blown off.  Sticking to his training, he refused to break his position of attention and did not attempt to retrieve his cover.

So the President of the United States, being the person he is, walked over, bent down and retrieved it. President Trump then walked over to the Marine and placed the cover back on his head, even trying to snug it down a bit. But it was blown right off again. As the most powerful man in the world moved to retrieve it again, an Air Force aide who was with him, got to it first and held on to it until the Marine could place it back on his own head after the salute to the President was complete and he was on board.

The Marine pilot of Marine One can be seen looking back and smiling at the young Marine guard.

I bet this is a day that the young Marine will never forget and I am sure his military buddies will never let him forget! But more importantly, those of us who are veterans, as well as those still on active duty, understand just how big this “little” act meant to all of us. To have the Commander of all the armed forces of the United States stop to pick up your cover for you and try to help you out, means a lot.

It speaks to President Trump’s character and how he views the military men and women that guard him, protect this country and around the world. He is not too big to bend over and pick up your cover for you.
