Some So-Called Social ‘Crises’ Are Easily Fixed by Enforcing the Law

By: - April 2, 2019

There are serious problems in the U.S. right now, some of them are easy to fix. But only if people truly want to fix them.

A couple of cop buddies and I were discussing the “homeless” crisis occurring in Seattle and other cities. Seattle and the state of Washington have governments run by leftist politicians who don’t want to fix certain problems. They’ve shown that with perennially failed policies. In fact, leftist governments do things that make some social problems worse, not better.

Consider that global warming social warrior and newest Democrat presidential candidate, Washington Governor Jay Inslee. He and his Democrat-controlled legislature have proposed House Bill 1591, which would  allow “homeless” camps statewide. Like I always say, if you want to be an idiot, you may as well do it in spectacular fashion. In this,  Governor Inslee has yet to disappoint me.

So, one of my buddies asks us, “You know how to fix Seattle’s so-called homeless crisis and all the crime that comes with it?”

We nodded (for cops this is a rhetorical question). Every cop in America knows the answer.

Enforce the law!” Okay, to be honest, he may have slipped an expletive in there, but you still get the point.

No, really. There will always be vagrants, but ending the leftist, fabricated “homeless” problem, as a crisis, is that simple. First, you have to remember, most of the people they call “homeless” are not the traditional, truly homeless people. People with serious mental issues and those who are temporarily without a home due to unexpected, unavoidable financial or other emergency circumstances. Nope. “Homeless” is a victim word the left has conscripted and used erroneously to acquire underserved sympathy for largely irresponsible people who routinely decline offers of help.

Of course, enforcing the law won’t totally solve this “crisis” automatically. It won’t put all vagrants into cozy apartments on the waterfront, or quaint, comfy ramblers in the burbs. But it would hold “homeless” people who commit crimes responsible for their actions. Reestablish a deterrent.

Enforcing the law would do what enforcing the law always does: significantly reduce the increased crime, health hazards, and blight associated with those people against whom government won’t allow cops to enforce the law. What in the world ever happened to equal justice under the law? I’ll tell you what happened: Social justice happened.

When you think about it, three major problems exist in America that could be largely solved, if governments allowed cops to enforce the law: Gun crime, illegal immigration, and “homelessness” (and its associated crime).

Leftist anti-gun advocates are constantly attempting to implement new gun laws. But, ironically, anti-gun leftist politicians don’t enforce the current gun laws against people who commit crimes with guns. Just ask any Chicago cop about how strictly their city and state enforce their gun laws.

It’s a crime to enter the U.S. illegally—no, really…it still is. Again, allow law enforcement to enforce the law, and you end the crisis portion of the problem. Then Congress can change the legal immigration laws to its heart’s content. But this batch of neo-lefties doesn’t even want to allow ICE (whom they shamefully accuse of human rights violations) to deport violent criminals—many of them repeat offenders. There are too many examples of violent illegal aliens going on to kill innocent Americans, legal immigrants, and even cops.

And finally, let’s reiterate the “homeless” crisis. In cities such as Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle they don’t allow the cops to enforce certain laws against certain people the Left refer to as “homeless.” These cities don’t allow their cops to enforce illegal camping, drinking alcohol in public, drug use, trespassing, property damage, shoplifting, minor assaults, urinating and defecating in public, etc. The list of what they allow these folks to get away with is long and getting longer.

For example, just ask Seattle’s cops about their city attorney’s stance on street crime. Cops file the cases, but Pete Holmes will not file certain charges against certain people—“homeless” criminals are among those people. As leftists in Seattle, Sacramento, and even Butte, Montana say, “You can’t arrest your way out of it.” Um, in large part, yeah, you can.
