The Cost of Lying? Credibility

By: - September 24, 2021

The government administration is supposed to answer to the citizens of this once great nation. We trust our government to tell us the truth. We gauge our decision, and for that matter vote on what we are told and believe. The problem now is that almost nothing the government says is true. In fact, the lying is so prevalent and so obvious that all credibility has been lost.

I remember being told, well more like drilled into my head, that your reputation and credibility is easily lost and once that happens, they are almost impossible to regain. This is exactly the situation in which the current administration finds itself. The lies are so easily detected it is a wonder the administration could possibly think anyone would believe anything they say. The current state of information coming out of the White House and most of the officials connected to it is appallingly untrue.

Not only the official lies but also lies that serve no purpose are being pushed on the public.

Personal lies from the President himself:

“I went to law school on a full academic scholarship…[and] ended up in the top half of my class.”

Biden also said he “graduated with three degrees from undergraduate school” and was the “outstanding student in the political science department.”

The truth is Biden graduated 76th of the 85 students in his law school class, had only a partial scholarship and did not win top honors in his undergraduate discipline. Hardly the “top” of his class.

Biden claimed: “My ancestors…worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours.’’  No one in Biden’s family worked underground.

“I became a teacher. I became a professor.” The truth is he made a few speeches at the University of Pennsylvania but has never instructed students.

The President also claims to have been arrested in the 1970s because he tried to visit Nelson Mandela in prison. That never happened.

Then there are the most official whoppers:

“Look, let’s put this thing in perspective here,” Biden said in his Aug. 20th remarks. “What interest do we have in Afghanistan at this point with al-Qaida gone? We went to Afghanistan for the express purpose of getting rid of al-Qaida in Afghanistan, as well as getting Osama bin Laden. And we did.”

That is a false claim as al-Qaida is very much still in Afghanistan. And remember, as Vice President, Biden opposed going after Osama bin Laden. Probably a good thing no one took that advice.

And about those deportations?  In March, President Biden said, “Thousands, tens of thousands of people who are over 18 years of age and single people, one at a time coming, have been sent back, sent home. We are sending back the vast majority of the families that are coming. We are trying to work out now with Mexico their willingness to take more of those families back.”

This is also untrue as evidenced by the catch and release programs the Biden administration is operating. This list goes on and on.

Then there are the out and out blatant lies that no one believes – but the entire administration is promoting:

Afghanistan was a success, and the withdrawal was the best it could have been.

No military leaders told the President to not withdraw all the troops.

No one advised the President that Afghanistan would fall quickly if troops were removed.

Alternatively, how about the southern border being secure and under control?

The administration constantly says the southern border is closed. Really? Is that a fictional movie we see every night on the news showing tens of thousands of migrants crossing into the U.S. and living underneath the international bridge in Del Rio, TX?

Maybe we should believe that the economy is better than ever.  Yes, that five-dollar gasoline is just a blip. Do not worry, the administration says it is all okay! Or what about the trillions of dollars in proposed spending that is all paid for? Does anyone really believe that, given the current economy?

Oh yeah, there is no crime problem in the mainly Democrat run cities. It is not any worse than before. In fact, crime was much worse under the Trump administration. Does anyone really believe that?

It has become so bad that people just expect it. The news lies. The senators lie. Administration officials change their tune when it does not “fit the current narrative.” The press secretary lies (and does it well). The President lies and we are left with a sense of just not caring anymore and not believing anything they say.

Yes, that lesson I learned years ago is still true today.

Once your credibility and reputation are lost, it is gone forever.
