US Representative Val Demings Claims Her First Amendment Rights are Different than Yours!

People talk about President Trump’s use of Twitter and how he sometimes seems to say off things. This is not confined to President Trump. Earlier this week, US Representative Val Demings (D-FL) posted on her official Facebook page a note and several photos of her supporting the Brady Campaign, stating:

“Proud to stand with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Americans For Responsible Solutions, The Brady Campaign and my distinguished colleagues in this fight for common sense gun legislation. We stand AGAINST the gun lobby, and WITH victims of gun violence everywhere.”

Of course, many people realize that more gun laws or restrictions will do nothing to stop criminals from getting firearms to commit crimes, and they voiced their opinions on the Facebook post. But evidently one person who posted knows the former Orlando chief of police pretty well and appears to have gotten her a little upset.

The exchange went something like this:

You can well imagine that saying your First Amendment right is different than your constituency’s did not go over well, and the thread got heated. Many commenters stated the obvious—that responsible gun ownership is something that she should acknowledge before she tries to pass any more laws on the “common people.”

And what about her comment saying she has different First Amendment rights than the rest of us? So far, she has not posted anything to clarify what she meant, and requests for clarification went unanswered. But obviously the post by that person who had a little background on her made a point and may have got the good representative a bit upset.

Should be interesting to see if this conversation continues. Stay tuned!
