The president is about to give the SOTU. It should have happened a week ago, but we’ve kvetched about that previously. As he’s in a bit of a hole right now, made better by the distraction of the Virginia governor issue we’ll cover soon in another piece. He needs to recover the momentum and take back the initiative. And he can do that, it’s right there for the taking. But he’s gonna need better comms counsel than he’s been getting. So, recognizing my patriotic duty I will advocate for the glaringly obvious and add my own self-serving rhetorical advice (italicized) to presidential speechwriters.
Some may find my words too harsh towards the opposition, too stark in their composition. Well, I ask you: How many times does the president and his supporters have to be called every vile name in the book until we return fire with fire?
To begin with, the president must change the subject on the Dems. Not a hard move to figure out and one of the first rules, along with blame the messenger and stop digging, of crisis management. He’s got good options to pick from.
The Border: Duh. His recent shutdown loss on this can be turned around by showcasing victims of illegal immigrants and also emphasizing the economic impact of Dem proposals. He should ask how many hospitals have been “shut down” in Southern California over the years because they couldn’t handle the increased volume of free services they had to give to illegals? He should read a short litany of names of those murdered by illegals and ask, who speaks for them? Not the media, not the Dems, not the culture, who then? The answer is in his mirror…
We only ask that America has the protection we all seek at night when we end the day, a secure door to protect our familes. Those who would deny our people this basic right of a nation, to decide our own security, should look the mother of Kate Steinle in the eye and tell her why. But they would have no answer. Because their obligation is not to American families. It is to the far left special interests and other foes of this country who seek every way to injure us to the point of desiccated weakness. Only then will their twisted concepts of complete power come to pass.
Venezuela: He should teach a history class and tie the current Democratic Party to the failed Chavez/Maduro regime. There are more than enough self-proclaimed Dem socialists to not make this a stretch. You know, given the limitations of a congressional SOTU, I wonder if there is some way, other than the shill in the audience ploy, to use an image here. Because talking about the starvation, disease, and poverty of Venezuela today is not nearly as powerful as showing it. Perhaps a post-address RNC social media broadcast employing intense images. Have it on immediately after the address to interrupt the Dem response. Speaking of such, have the Dems lost their minds over the diversity scam? We and they know they don’t give a damn about blacks. But to drink their own Kool-Aid so much that they put on against Trump a failed state candidate who has serious presentation issues is just lunacy…
Less than a long flight away from our shores, in the streets of Caracas, we can plainly see the results of policies that some on the other side of the aisle call for: socialism. A failed military coup, followed by rigged elections, and ending in, of course, privation and repression, are the time-tested consequences of socialism. Any truthful reading of history confirms it. But, there’s the rub. Our opponents don’t deal in truth. Like those before them they deal in the Big Lie. America is racist. America is sexist. America is a force for malevolence in the world. Such are the falsehoods that pass for ideology in this House. I tell you hear and now. You are on the wrong side of history.
Death and Taxes: With their support of barbaric abortion legislation in New York and Virginia and an ascendant wing of their party calling for seventy percent tax brackets, the Dems have literally become the party of death and taxes. Label them so…
Not content with the damage they’ve done to generations of poor Americans by their policies, by Herodian (ok, maybe I’m too esoteric on the Herod line) state legislation in New York and Virginia, Democratic governors now actually advocate for the slaughter of innocent babies just about to be born. Their massacre of innocents knows few precedents in civilized nations. Any decent person, regardless of where they stand on the larger issue, must reject this and recognize it for what it truly is: murder.
Combine that with the stated intention of members of their party leadership (oh, you say, AOC is not in their party leadership? Let’s watch the Dems tell her she’s not) to raise tax rates to seventy percent, and there you have the essence of the modern Democratic Party. Death and Taxes should be their motto, as it surely is their aim.
The Economy: The December numbers are good, especially the jobs numbers where over 300,000 jobs were added. When it comes right down to it, this type of news will spell win or lose, reelection or not, for the president. As such, through power of delivery, repetition, and contrast he must paint a picture of varying shades of economic colors and national purpose. Ours and theirs…
We see the vision of the Democratic Party in the empty store shelves of Venezuela. We see it in the murder rates of some of our largest cities. We see it in their nonchalance to the execution by whim of children about to draw their first breath. And what of us? What do we offer America? We have brought the lowest employment rates in American history for black and Latin Americans. Our economy is dynamic and growing, adding hundreds of thousands of jobs in December alone. Foolish restraints and unnecessary regulations are being slashed, to bring even more competitiveness and more jobs. But those are only material achievements. What we fully seek is a fair, safe, and prosperous America. An America that offers opportunity to its citizens, friendship to its real allies, and remains the last best hope of all of mankind. To that we pledge. To that, we must strive and succeed.
Granted, a bit more Churchillian than Trumpian. So translate it into Queens and make a run at it because, when it comes to recent White House communications strategy, anything is better than the status quo.
