The White House is threatening to completely close down the border with Mexico. Doing so could potentially disrupt businesses across the United States and North America as the flow of goods would likely come to a stop. More than $600 billion dollars worth of goods crossed the border last year alone.
President Donald Trump has claimed that if Mexico does not stem the flow of immigrants to the United States, he will shut down the border completely. Experts warn that this could cause severe economic damage and lead to immediate layoffs and a sharp rise in prices for various agricultural and consumer goods.
In a tweet, President Trump claimed:
Mexico must use its very strong immigration laws to stop the many thousands of people trying to get into the USA. Our detention areas are maxed out & we will take no more illegals. Next step is to close the Border! This will also help us with stopping the Drug flow from Mexico!

The president of Mexico has stated:
“We are going to help, to collaborate. We want to have a good relationship with the government of the United States. We are not going to argue about these issues.”
The threats come after President Trump already ordered all aid be cut to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The Trump administration has accused the governments of these three countries for doing far too little to stem the flow of migrants north, destined for the United States.
The aid that was cut was primarily aimed at reducing illegal immigration. Critics claim that the funds are being wasted and siphoned off through widespread corruption.
