President Trump welcomed cyclists from the Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride to the White House on April 26. The four-day journey connects wounded warriors with adaptive technology and services they need to enjoy cycling again. Veterans from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps were all honored by the President, who recognized them as “part of the long, unbroken chain of courageous Americans who have answered the call in every generation, defending our families, our freedoms, and our great American flag, which we love.”
The President continued to thank the VIPs who were also there to show their support. Attendees included Senators and Cabinet members. President Trump also recognized the military spouses and families of the wounded warriors. “Their love and dedication and support is really the foundation of our military might,” he said of the families in attendance.

What is Soldier Ride?
Wounded Warrior Project hosts Soldier Ride for wounded veterans to both help them enjoy adaptive cycling as well as provide support. During Soldier Ride, participants are promised that they will “push your limits beyond what you think is possible and leave with a deeper understanding of who you are and what you’re capable of.”
Bikes, including adaptive hand cycles, trikes, and equipment for those with injuries or disabilities, is provided by Wounded Warriors free of charge.
Soldier Ride is more than just cycling. Each participant is given the opportunity to network with other veterans to work towards goals together. “You are the backbone of our liberty. You are the protectors of our community. And you are the proud and beating heart of our magnificent nation,” said President Trump.
Two special Soldier Rides are open to civilian participants who can ride alongside wounded warriors to show their support. Soldier Ride Babylon and Soldier Ride Hamptons, both in late July, raise money to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
A Positive Future for Veterans
President Trump concluded his remarks by championing reform at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, recent increases to the military spending budget, and the administration’s efforts to fight the opioid crisis. “Accountability. We want accountability,” he said of VA accountability legislation. At an event that honors veterans, especially wounded veterans, Trump clearly wanted to highlight the work that his administration was doing that would benefit them.
The struggle that veterans have faced with getting quality and timely medical care is one that Trump tackled early in his Presidency. Trump promised both accountability for the VA and increased choice in care for veterans.
“We must always protect those who protect us,” he said. “Your devotion, your endurance, and your unbreakable will are all a great inspiration to every single American.”
President Trump quoted a military spending budget of over $700 billion in each of the next two years. He continued to highlight his commitment to “stopping that scourge” of opioid abuse in the United States. “As you set out on your Soldier Ride, all of America will be cheering you on and watching,” the President said. He concluded his remarks by making a pledge to the veterans in attendance that the Trump administration “will support you, and your loved ones, and your amazing families every single day, now and always.”
