The new year is in full swing, and many of us are working toward new weight loss goals! If you’re planning to tackle weight loss as your new year’s resolution, or simply find ways to live a healthier life, then collagen peptide proteins may help you reach those goals.

If you don’t believe us, just wait until you read about some of these collagen weight loss success stories!

Collagen is a well-known supplement for improving skin complexion and speeding up injury recovery, but why is it good to use collagen for weight loss?

Weight loss and obesity have been studied for quite some time, and within those studies, collagen protein has made quite the name for itself.

Among many collagen weight loss success stories, there is scientific evidence that backs up these claims. Although more research should be conducted, the studies that have been released over the last ten or more years have shown that adding high-quality collagen proteins to your diet can help you lose weight – and maintain a healthy weight longer.

But how does collagen really help with weight loss?

So you don’t have to go searching, we found and summarized five research studies with our favorite collagen weight loss success stories that answer that very question.

1. Collagen may help you stay full longer

Our first collagen weight loss success story comes from a study of 22 individuals that suggests collagen protein helps weight loss by making you feel full for longer.

One of the most frequently stated benefits of collagen protein supplementation is that it improves satiety. The suggestion of feeling more full after consuming oral collagen comes from this specific study.

The main thing that this study was looking at was how the consumption of gelatin would impact a variety of human gut hormones, and more specifically, ghrelin, which is our hunger hormone.

In this study, the scientists used 22 participants; 11 of these participants were obese, and 11 were considered lean and healthy.

In the study, each participant was given 20g of gelatin. (It is important to note that gelatin is a form of collagen. However, not all forms of gelatin are as easily absorbed by your body.) After the participants ate a meal consisting of the 20g of gelatin, plasma samples were collected. These samples were analyzed to measure glucose, insulin, and ghrelin levels in the participants.

As the scientists expected, the obese patients experienced normal glucose levels, high insulin levels, and a lower concentration of the ghrelin hormone compared to the lean patients.

They did not just take one plasma sample, though.

Samples were taken again after 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes. As more time passed after each meal, certain gut hormone levels increased.

We have a few different gut hormones, some that suppress appetite and others that make us feel hungry. In this study, the gut hormone levels that increased were the ones that help you feel full and suppress the appetite (ghrelin).

These findings have inspired more research collagen and weight loss. Specifically how its consumption can help obese patients begin to lose and manage weight through calorie-controlled diets. It also may prove that even after one meal containing collagen, gut hormones become better regulated.

Eating meals that contain collagen, or taking collagen peptide supplements can provide more appetite control and satiety, especially in obese and overweight patients, and is one of the reasons so many people have collagen weight loss success stories.

2. Adding more protein to your diet could control your hunger hormone levels

This next collagen weight loss success story focuses on hormones and amino acids in our bodies that influence how hungry we feel.

Just like in the previous study, another group of scientists wanted to determine if a low intake of dietary protein impacts weight management

It has long been recognized that high-protein diets help make people feel full and reduce overall food intake throughout the day. This study found that increasing the protein content that helps your body regulate and balance hunger hormone levels can also help reduce hunger and aid in weight loss success.

To do this, healthy-weight and obese people were both studied.

The high-protein diets reduced the number of calories consumed and increased their peptide YY levels (the hormone found in your small intestine that helps reduce appetite and food intake).

Compared to both a high-fat and high-carbohydrate diet, the high-protein diet resulted in a more significant reduction of hunger.

To supplement the human study, researchers also used genetically modified mice to see if controlled levels of hunger hormones would influence weight gain or loss. The results were similar, and there was a direct correlation between the amount of protein consumed and hunger hormone levels.

In the end, this study shows that obesity does impact our body’s natural ability to regulate appetite and hunger. Using high-quality proteins to enhance a healthy diet could help increase the satiating power of food and promote weight loss.

Collagen peptides are a wonderful source of protein. Adding a daily collagen protein supplement to your diet could help you become one of the collagen weight loss success stories.

3. Daily collagen intake may stabilize your metabolism

A big part of weight loss and weight management has to do with maintaining a healthy metabolism. Your metabolism is the chemical reaction in your body that converts food to energy and eliminates metabolic waste.

Since your metabolism helps convert the fuel you consume into proteins, it makes sense that consuming high-quality proteins like hydrolyzed collagen could help your body’s metabolism run much more smoothly.

In this third study, the goal was to investigate how fat distribution and obesity impacts weight loss and collagen turnover. Collagen synthesis and turnover is affected due to factors such as sex, age, and weight.

A baseline was maintained during the study, and after separate 8 and 16-week dietary treatments, body weight, waist circumference, and collagen turnover were measured on the obese patients.

These numbers were compared to a random group of healthy control subjects. Obese patients had higher levels of markers related to collagen turnover throughout the study.

As obese subjects began to lose more weight during the 16-week study period, collagen turnover markers did change, suggesting that obesity does contribute to collagen turnover and can impact weight loss.

When your body cannot take in or synthesize proteins properly, it throws your metabolism out of balance. This can cause other body systems to work harder or malfunction.

So, although this study didn’t necessarily use collagen to supplement weight loss per se, it does suggest that by stabilizing the amount of high-quality collagen protein intake, a collagen weight loss success story can be more likely due to the balancing of metabolism.

4. High-quality protein intake may help balance body composition, especially in older adults

For this next collagen weight loss success story,  two different types of high-quality proteins were used. One protein used in the study was collagen protein hydrolysate, while the other was a whey protein.

The survey took place over two 15-day periods, with a week in between, and included nine elderly women that were considered to be healthy. During both of the 15-day periods, essential amino acids were measured in the women along with nitrogen balance and body weight.

Although only about half of the recommended daily intake of protein was consumed in the form of supplementation, body weight decreased, and their nitrogen excretion was higher on the whey protein trail.

However, during the 15 days using the hydrolyzed collagen protein supplement, nitrogen balances were maintained, and lean body mass was preserved.

When the women used a hydrolyzed collagen supplement, they were able to maintain these outcomes with a significantly lower intake of protein each day compared to the whey and the daily recommended intake. This made it easier to maintain body weight with collagen supplements, and helped them fulfill their dietary needs.

It just goes to show that you don’t have to be young to experience a collagen weight loss success story. In fact, we often recommend consuming a collagen protein supplement as a part of your anti-aging routine – at any age!

5. Collagen’s amino acid composition may promote long term weight management

The final study on our list focuses again on high-quality proteins like collagen increasing satiety and energy expenditure. This could be due to the specific amino acids found in some collagen supplements that help your body naturally synthesize more collagen and apply it where your body needs it most.

Not all proteins have the same concentrations of essential amino acids. This study suggests that proteins that lack those amino acids do not affect appetite suppression and may limit positive protein balances in the body.

In the study, they compared appetite, energy expenditure, and substrate balances between gelatin (collagen) and casein to study this. They studied results from both men and women in a randomized crossover design.

For men on the gelatin (collagen) protein diet, hunger was suppressed 44% more, and protein balance was more negative than the casein diet.

For all participants, results showed that gelatin (collagen) might be a better alternative to other proteins in terms of weight loss for people with obesity due to the greater hunger-suppressing effect.

However, both proteins had positive effects in preserving fat-free mass.

This just goes to show that while adding protein to your diet in general can help with weight loss, with collagen, a weight loss success story is more likely.

Create your own collagen weight loss success story

It seems that through the years, more and more studies have been released to support the possibility that a diet high in protein, especially high-quality proteins like hydrolyzed collagen, may promote weight loss.

However, just as not every protein source has the same effect, not every type of collagen protein is created equal.

For the best chance at a collagen weight loss success story, it helps to have the highest quality collagen protein in your diet. There are many different types of collagen supplements, so knowing what works best for your goals is important.

Above all else, you should be looking for a collagen supplement that is easy for your body to absorb and process.

ProT Gold’s hydrolyzed collagen protein is efficient and digestible, providing the best results for people looking to add high-quality protein to their diets and create their own collage weight loss success story.

In fact, it’s medical-grade and used by medical professionals around the country!

Hydrolyzed collagen is collagen that has gone through the process of hydrolysis. This breaks down the molecule size to become small enough to fit into stomach pores for digestion. The small size promotes fast absorption and easy digestion, helping you receive all the benefits of your collagen supplement.

Remember, collagen supplementation for weight loss is most effective when done in tandem with proper diet and exercise.

And you should consult a medical professional before engaging in any new diet or exercise routine.

Every body is different, and you may need different supplements or different types of exercise to achieve your collagen weight loss success story.
