President Donald Trump has informed congressional leaders that the hostilities with Iran are over.
He cited the present ceasefire and a lack of recent exchange of fire.
“The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated,” the president explained in a letter.
Operation Epic Fury was unleashed in February to ensure that the rogue Islamic regime in Tehran would not be able in the future to threaten nuclear annihilation on its neighbors, and other nations around the globe.
By federal law, presidents can conduct military operations for 60 days without congressional approval.

A report at RollCall said the deadline was set by a 1973 law.
The White House sent letters to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate President Pro Tempore Charles E. Grassley.
“On April 7, 2026, I ordered a 2-week ceasefire. The ceasefire has since been extended. There has been no exchange of fire between United States Forces and Iran since April 7, 2026. The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated,” Trump said in the letter.
“Despite the success of United States operations against the Iranian regime and continued efforts to secure a lasting peace, the threat posed by Iran to the United States and our Armed Forces remains significant. Accordingly, the Department of War continues to update its force posture in the [area of responsibility] in select countries, as necessary and appropriate, to address Iranian and Iranian proxy forces’ threats and to protect the United States and its allies and partners.”
The Iranian regime has been a destabilizing force in the Middle East and around the globe since Islamic fundamentalists took over the country nearly 50 years ago.
There long has been a movement within Iran to remove the Islamic regime, but that has not proven to be able to eliminate the legacy influences yet.
Trump’s letters included a classified attachment which was not released.
