As the U.S. trade war with Canada intensifies, President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a new order that could impact $50 billion worth of Canadian products annually.
“From now on, NO RECIPROCITY – NO ACCESS!” Trump exclaimed on Truth Social.
“I am hereby directing the GSA (General Services Administration), working with the USTR, to take all necessary steps to REMOVE Canadian-origin products from GSA’s Multiple Award Schedules unless Canada restores full and fair reciprocity for American Farmers and Companies. Those schedules account for more than 50 BILLION DOLLARS a year.”
“Those schedules account for more than 50 BILLION DOLLARS a year. This should have been cut off years ago, by other Administrations, like it was by mine, only to reinstituted by Sleepy Joe Biden.”
The president added: “Everyone knows that Canada doesn’t let our Great Dairy Farmers sell into the Canadian Market, and that the only reason Canada makes Autos is because of previous disastrous Trade Agreements while other Presidents were in Office.
“Canada has been ripping us off for years, but what many do not realize is that the Canadian Government, including Canadian Provinces, have banned American Small Businesses and Companies from selling into their Government Procurement Markets. This is the case even though Canada gets broad access into the massive American Government Procurement Market, including those of our States. That is not reciprocity, it is a Canadian Trade Scam.”
On Monday, Trump’s passion was visible as he declared about a Canadian aircraft maker: “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough! Over 50% of their revenue comes from the United States – They live off American Buyers, American Companies, American Airports, and American Service – All while Canada blocks our GREAT American Banks, and Companies, throughout the U.S.A.
“They even blocked Gulfstream Aerospace from doing business in Canada – Completely unjust and unfair! That Era is OVER! If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’ BUY AMERICAN. FLY ON AMERICAN AIRLINERS. ENJOY AMERICAN LIQUOR AND BEVERAGES. SAIL ON LAKE AMERICA. AMERICA FIRST!”
In a Tuesday morning address, Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to support Canadian workers affected by the trade war with the U.S. “for as long as it takes.”
“We have everything we need to pivot and prosper,” Carney indicated. “That pivot will come at a cost. There’s always a cost to action, but it doesn’t come close to the cost of standing still.”
Adversity only makes us stronger. It always has.

“This is about who we are as Canadians. It’s about our livelihoods and the country we leave to our kids.”
Carney concluded: “The truth is adversity only makes us stronger. It always has.”
Meanwhile, Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s former deputy prime minister under Justin Trudeau, told Katy Tur of MS Now that Canadians are feeling “very angry,” “very disappointed” and “very betrayed.”
“Canadians also know that President Trump was elected not once, but twice, and that is causing a lot of Canadians to wonder whether the United States can ever be trusted again.”
