Justice Department IG Report is Released, Left Buries Head in Sand

By: - June 15, 2018

The Office of the Inspector General for the United States Department of Justice has issued its long-awaited report that entailed an investigation and review of the actions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation leading up to the 2016 presidential election. While much of the mainstream media coverage of the report’s contents has focused only on the talking point that former FBI Director James Comey did not act out of political bias, they are conveniently ignoring the fact that the IG investigation found that Comey had handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email servers with complete and total incompetence. Not to mention the absolute avalanche of information that displays a nearly “Keystone Cops” level of quality in much of what the FBI accomplished leading up to the 2016 elections.

Also included in the report was a text message from August 2016 in which FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok texted Special Counsel to the Deputy Director Lisa Page and vowed to her that Trump would never become president, indicating he would be willing to take official action to impact Trump’s campaign. Strzok had been assigned to lead the Russian investigation in late July 2016. This text message was just one in a flurry of anti-Trump communications between the two. Clearly-biased Page and Strzok, both of whom also had a romantic relationship, went on to accept invitations to work on the Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel probe into the 2016 election. Strzok was not removed from the Special Counsel investigation until July 28, 2017, stemming directly from the text messages between Strzok and Page.

In what should be a shocking revelation, but in truth won’t surprise anyone, the “We’ll stop it” text was apparently withheld from congressional investigators who ran an inquiry into the FBI earlier.

The IG investigation also found that it was impossible to determine who had been leaking confidential information to the media, as there were sometimes more than one hundred agents who had access to the sensitive information being leaked, and dozens of agents were in direct and unauthorized contact with journalists.

“We identified numerous FBI employees, at all levels of the organization and with no official reason to be in contact with the media, who were nevertheless in frequent contact with reporters. The large number of FBI employees who were in contact with journalists during this time period impacted our ability to identify the sources of leaks,” the Inspector General Report indicated.

It was also noted that social interactions between FBI employees and journalists were inconsistent with FBI policy and ethics rules. The report identified instances in which “FBI employees received tickets to sporting events from journalists, went on golfing outings with media representatives, were treated to drinks and meals after work by reporters, and were the guests of journalists at non-public social events.”

It is surprising that the mainstream media has chosen to ignore the damning details of the IG investigation or the fact that two Norwegian lawmakers nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday for his historic work in bringing a peaceful future to the Korean Peninsula. It is also equally shocking the volume of coverage they are giving to a perfectly timed and equally baseless lawsuit by the New York AG. Almost as surprising as the fact that Comey had an extensive rebuttal published by The New York Times a matter of minutes after the IG report went public…almost like there was a plan to distract away from the immensely negative information in the DOJ report.
