Golden State’s Golden Derailment — What Do You Expect from California?

By: - February 16, 2019

While President Trump is asking for a few billion to secure the nation, California has thrown away $77 billion and will get absolutely nothing for it. There is just something about California. It is the land of Hollywood, or more correctly, the land of make-believe. Famously known as the place where people make millions of dollars pretending to be something they are not.

It seems fitting that California has been pouring billions and billions of dollars into a black hole called the Bullet Train. California Governor Gavin Newsom didn’t even get to ring the bell on that train before the entire project derailed. He killed the project, one that was only ten years behind schedule and so far over budget that no one even remembers what it was supposed to cost.

Maybe if they had only waited for the Democrat Socialist darling, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to tell them how to do it, they would have been alright. No, probably not. She is too busy figuring out how to kill air travel and get rid of all the cows.

The high-speed train that was supposed to run between Los Angeles and San Francisco is done, kaput, finito. In his state address, the governor said, “Let’s be real, the current project, as planned, would cost too much and respectfully take too long. There’s been too little oversight and not enough transparency.”

Governor Newsom said that California has “the capacity to complete a high-speed rail link between Merced and Bakersfield, but there simply isn’t a path to get from Sacramento to San Diego, let alone from San Francisco to L.A.” So, pipe dreams don’t die in California; they just get moved. Remember that saying about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity? Well…

Former Governor Jerry Brown pushed for this train that never left the station and is years behind schedule. This debacle was started in 2008 and is now, if continued, scheduled to be completed somewhere around 2033. By the time this thing gets done, we will all have personal transporters ala Star Trek. Beam me up, Scotty!

“This so-called bullet train is a solution in search of a problem that is plagued by billions of dollars in cost overruns and fiscal mismanagement,” San Diego Councilman Mark Kersey told Fox News in 2018.

When the voters in California approved the project, the cost was estimated at $40 billion. If allowed to continue the cost estimates now are north of $116 billion. At that rate, the state of California could give every man, woman and child in the state approximately three thousand dollars, or maybe they could just put every homeless person in the state in nice luxury housing and pick up the excrement from the public streets.  Hey, but it’s California, what do you expect?
