When You’re Over a Target You Get Flak

By: - April 11, 2019

While I prefer to think of the particular image of a foamingly rabid animal caught in a trap of its own making, the Our Brave Boys Over Schweinfurt analogy will do for the moment.

What deserves these descriptions? The howling and excruciating, for them, Dem yelping over Attorney General Bill Barr’s statement that the Trump campaign was spied on during the 2016 presidential election. What’s up kids? Hands caught in the collusion jar?

The usual suspects were quick to deploy AAA. No, not roadside assistance. Well, maybe kinda, as their story has broken down. Chuck Todd, Anderson Cooper, Steny Hoyer, and Nancy herself all jumped on Barr for daring to state what anybody with a working cerebellum figured out two years ago.

But methinks the ladies doth protest too much.

Probably what they’re most upset at? Timing. Their narrative, Trump as Vlad puppet, was supposed to take them into the 2020 election. Now, given the timeline of these things, the exact opposite story, how they tried to steal an election away from the American voter, will dominate headlines when they least need it to. The whole time the Dems will get more batguano crazy on their denunciations of the ongoing process, which will make them look all the more guilty.

That’s the thing about this president. Sure, he’s not perfect and screws up sometimes. Yeah, he shoots his mouth off before he thinks on occasion and then later has to backtrack. He can be petty, childish, and uncouth. However, his opposition is so downright disconnected it’s a miracle they can summon up the mental agility to brush their teeth in the morning. And as for unfortunate personal traits? The president is bloody Grace Kelly compared to some of the Dems.

This and more has translated into remarkable support (by certain polls solidly into the fifty percentiles) at this point in his tenure, and that seems to bestow perhaps the greatest luck I’ve ever seen in an elected official. Just when he’s got a minor problem some Dem will advocate daycare on Mars and there goes the news cycle.

When Napoleon was criticized for only winning battles on luck, which was a completely horsemanure assertion (his artillery into the ice maneuver at Austerlitz is proof of how good he was), he countered with, “I’d rather have lucky generals than good ones.” A century later Ike concurred, adding, “They win battles.”

Donald Trump endorsed by Napoleon and Ike? Not a bad theme.

Somebody call the RNC.
