Tensions continue to rise with Russia as President Obama spends his final days in office. The U.S. made the latest public move in the dangerous game of chess by deploying troops to Poland along the Russian border. While Polish officials and citizens alike were delighted with the arrival of U.S. troops, Russia was, as expected, threatened and angered over the move.
According to Reuters, the Kremlin said on Thursday it was concerned by what it described as a U.S. military build-up in Poland, saying the move represented a threat to its national security.
With the now seemingly innumerable issues driving a wedge between the U.S. and Russia, it is difficult to see how the months ahead will play out. While President-elect Trump believes that improved relations with Russia are critical to the safety and well being of both nations, the tit-for-tat moves that have been prevalent over the last several months will be a great deal for both sides to overcome, thus staving off a looming global conflict.
