The act of abortion, whether through a surgical abortion or chemical abortion, destroys the life of an unborn child.
The industry in America is built on the killing of those human beings.
But now a pro-abortion legal team is demanding that one prominent pro-life organization censor its language to banished the word “killing.”
Because statements that abortion is “killing” is a “false statement.”
The demands were in a letter signed by Molly Duane and Maria Victoria Abut of Amplify Legal, which explains they “represent” 13 individuals “defamed” by Live Action and Live Action News “after seeking abortion care in the face of medically doomed pregnancies.”
The threat from Duane and Abut said, “Live Action News’s pervasive pattern of publishing false and defamatory statements condemning our clients is made clear in hundreds of articles, YouTube videos, and social media posts. One client alone, Kate Cox, has been defamed by Live Action News several dozen times. The result of such defamation is devastating. Megan Kling, whose story is described in detail below, has feared for her life and the lives of her husband and children as a result of Live Action News’s and Ms. Flanders’s actions. Other clients have received death threats as a direct result of Live Action News’s conduct. We write to demand that Live Action News and Ms. Flanders immediately cease and desist from publishing these false and defamatory statements about our clients and correct the libelous matter detailed below.”
Live Action, through the legal team at the Thomas More Society, politely declined the demands from Amplify, which it described as being “affiliated with parent organization Abortion in America, which is a project of George Soros’ Hopewell Fund.”
“Live Action will not cease reporting on abortion. It will not desist from expressing the view—shared by tens of millions of Americans and by the pro-life movement your clients have made careers of publicly opposing—that abortion takes the life of a living human being and is accurately described as ‘killing.’ Live Action will not delete its archive, will not retract protected opinion, and will not submit its future coverage of public figures, public lawsuits, public convention speeches, and public political campaigns to your pre-clearance,” the response said.
Lila Rose, founder of Live Action, said, “Abortion is an act of killing. It deliberately ends the life of a living human child. That is the truth abortion activists want to forbid anyone from saying out loud. They want abortion placed beyond moral judgment, even when the child targeted is disabled or has received a difficult diagnosis. They know that controlling the language is essential to making abortion easier to accept, because people intuitively understand that abortion kills a child and that every baby deserves a chance at life. Those children are human beings. Their lives have dignity, and they have a right to live. Americans have every right to say that openly and forcefully, without fear of being dragged into court for refusing to adopt the deceptive language preferred by abortion activists.”
She continued, “Live Action exists to fight for the right of every child to live, born and preborn. Our journalism gives a voice to children in the womb who cannot speak for themselves and reports the truth about abortion and the abortion industry. We will not be pressured into using language that hides what abortion does or makes the killing of a preborn child easier to accept. We are fighting for a culture and legal system that respects every human life and refuses to treat the sick, disabled, or unborn as disposable. Legal threats against our First Amendment right to speak will not change that mission. Threats will not stop us from calling abortion what it is or from fighting for the right of every child to live. We will keep fighting, and we will win.”
Peter Breen, of Thomas More Society, cited the pro-abortion activists’ demands, and wrote in a response letter: “The answer is ‘No.’”
He said, “Amplify Legal’s ‘demand letter’ is a meritless threat aimed at silencing Live Action’s pro-life speech, not winning a lawsuit. The abortion advocacy group behind this letter could not cite a single case supporting its brazen attempt to prevent pro-life advocates from calling abortion what it is—‘killing’—and even the US Supreme Court has used the term in the context of abortion. We’re proud to defend Live Action’s reporting and its right to speak freely and clearly on the most contentious social issue of our time.”
Live Action pointed out that the 13 “clients” cited by Amplify all “chose to publicly share their abortion stories.”
A report at the Washington Stand explained Abortion in America was founded by Cecile Richards, the late president of Planned Parenthood. Amplify is also funded through the Hopewell Fund, backed by George Soros, the American investor and far-left political activist.
“We’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars every year, being fed into these funds by various left-wing billionaires,” Breen, pointed out.
He warned of the attack on freedom of speech.
“Of course, it’s an uncomfortable word. … But what are you doing in an abortion? You are killing a living human being. Uncomfortable, but certainly true. And [it is] well within the First Amendment rights of Live Action and any pro-life group to be able to use that word and say very clearly that abortion is killing,” he said.
