Crimes often inspire copycat criminals. High-profile crimes more so.
And that allegedly is what’s developed in Illinois.
Collin Rugg of Trending Politics reports, an “Illinois woman who was ‘very interested’ in the Lindsay Clancy trial, allegedly hanged her 2 year old child from the rafters in the basement of her $1M home. 2-year-old Barrett Walsh was found hanging with his feet off the ground. His mother, Corie Walsh, immediately told investigators she thought he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ.’ One witness says Walsh was ‘very interested’ with the Clancy trial. Absolutely horrific. Clancy, accused of killing her three children after having taken a cocktail of a dozen different psychiatric drugs administrated for postpartum psychosis, Friday saw her case go to mistrial when the jury divided 11-1 and was unable to reach unanimity. Prosecutors had given the jury the option of murder, lesser charges, or acquittal by reason of insanity.
A report at Fox said an Illinois woman, Corie A. Walsh, 40, has been charged for the death of her 2-year-old.
She was “being held for medical treatment on Friday after she was found with wounds believed to be self-inflicted but non-life-threatening when police responded to her home on Tuesday, the Frankfort Police Department said in a news release.”
Frankfort police went to Walsh’s home on Tuesday and found her son unresponsive, gave him CPR and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Local broadcasters reported the boy, Barrett Walsh, about 2, was strangled.
The report said, “Carolyn Pappas, who lives nearby, told NBC Chicago earlier this week that the boy’s death has left residents stunned. She told the station that the circumstances brought to mind the case of Clancy, a Massachusetts mother who admitted to killing her three children before attempting to take her own life.”
“This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community. You never think it’s going to hit so close to home,” she told the station. “And so yeah, that absolutely makes us think of that. And again, just more people I think are struggling than we realize and so we just need to be there for one another.”
Reports said the neighbor told authorities she found the boy hanging from a rafter in the basement.
“She removed the ligature, lowered the child to the ground, and attempted CPR while calling 911. According to the neighbor, Barrett was cold and had no pulse,” police filings said.
Three other children in the home were found unharmed.
And police reported the mother was “attempting to harm herself” when they got there.
According to court documents, Walsh told officers she “did this to her baby because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ,’” reports said.
