Coulter’s criticisms have extended beyond harsh words and tweets, with the pundit stating that she’d prefer “President Pence”
Donald Trump’s recent efforts to approach politics and policy in a more bi-partisan manner is costing the President some of his staunchest allies. Not only are some Congressional Republicans cooling on Trump, but many influential right-wing pundits are turning on the President as well. Ann Coulter, who once proclaimed Trump a “God-Emperor”, has now blasted the President, stating that she bet on a “loser” and that the President is the “worst negotiator.”
Most of the criticisms have erupted due to the President’s support of some type of protection for Dreamers to allow them to stay in the country. Dreamers refer to people who were brought to the United States at a very young age by their parents. Many of them have never even visited their birth country, and are socially and culturally American. The President has shown a soft spot for Dreamers, and is now working with Congressional Democrats and some Republicans to reach a bipartisan deal that would provide Dreamers with protection, while also increasing border security.
The about-face for Coulter comes only a year after she penned the influential book “In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome.” Coulter’s criticisms have extended beyond harsh words and tweets, with the pundit stating that she’d prefer “President Pence”, and that “everyone” wants to see Trump impeached. She has also retweeted numerous videos of people burning “Make America Great Again” hats and merchandise. Indeed, her Twitter account is now filled with anti-Trump tweets.
Looks like Bannon got it wrong. That shadowy force trying to nullify the 2016 election … is @realDonaldTrump.

Breitbart, which is run by President Trump’s former Chief of Strategy Steve Bannon, is also turning on the President. The publication has run several articles over the past few days criticizing the President, and specifically his support for Dreamers. Bannon had originally left the White House planning to go to war “for” the President. However, Trump’s recent shift to embrace moderates could push Bannon and others to abandon the President.
At this point, the President’s much anticipated “wall” between Mexico and the United States also appears to be dead in the water. Trump has been unable to drum up support for the multi-billion dollar wall even among Republicans. For Democrats, a wall is a near-absolute “no-go”. Apparently, Democrats were unwilling to consider funding for the wall even in exchange for protection for Dreamers.
However, Democrats and a number of Republicans have agreed to provide more funding and resources for border security. Democrats have made these extra resources a key part of their negotiations with Trump to protect Dreamers. From the President’s point of view, such a deal would allow him to expand border security, while also providing protection for Dreamer immigrants who are trying to receive an education or join the military. This policy could help keep drug dealers and other unsavory types out, while allowing productive immigrants to stay.
Trump has also apparently reached out to moderate Democrats and Republicans to reach a deal to reform health care. With the Republican Party having failed to push through repeal and replace, Trump is hoping that Democrats and moderate Republicans can deliver health care reform.
