According to the Department of Defense, two Americans were killed in action while conducting a raid with their Afghan partner force in the Achin District of Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. The combat operation was directed at ISIS-K, the Islamic State affiliate operation in Afghanistan. In addition to the two fatalities, another U.S. service member was wounded during the same raid.
Achin District is where SSG Mark De Alencar was killed on April 8th and the United States Military dropped a MOAB on April 13th, killing nearly 100 insurgents. The Pentagon had previously reported on April 19th that American Special Operations Forces were engaged in direct combat with the enemy.
At this time, identification of the fallen is being delayed until notification of their next of kin.
