Captain Bill Salvin, a spokesperson for U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, announced that a U.S, service member has been killed in action late Saturday in Nangarhar Province. The service member was mortally wounded while conducting combat operations against ISIS-Khorasan. As is protocol, the name of the fallen is being withheld until family members are notified.
This is the first combat loss for an American service member in 2017. The last service member killed in action in Afghanistan was SFC Allan Brown, who passed away December 6, 2016 at Walter Reed Medical Center from wounds received during a suicide bombing at Bagram Airfield.
