Democratic Mega Donor Spending Millions to Impeach President Trump

Democratic mega-donor and global warming activist Tom Seyer is spending millions to try to impeach President Trump.

Prepare to see TV ads calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. As the 2018 election season starts to heat up, Democratic mega-donor and billionaire Tom Steyer is spending huge sums on a national TV ad campaign calling for the impeachment of Trump. Steyer appears to be attempting to force the hand of Democratic leaders and is urging them to impeach the President.

“A Republican Congress once impeached a president for far less. And today, people in Congress and his own administration know that this President is a clear and present danger who is mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons.”- Tom Steyer

Numerous individual Democrats called for Trump’s impeachment. Common grievances include Trump’s alleged connections to Russia and violations of the Emoluments Clause. So far, however, the calls have failed to spur any real traction and have largely been viewed as political stunts.

Steyer wants to make impeachment a reality and is spending millions of dollars on TV ads in New York, California, and on national cable. He is also pouring huge sums into digital ads. Steyer is paying for the ads out of pocket rather than through his NextGen political action committee.

“He [Trump] has threatened to reduce aid for millions of American citizens in Puerto Rico who are struggling to survive without drinkable water or electricity — a move that would be a total dereliction of his duty.” -Tom Steyer

Steyer is a Democratic Party insider and mega-donor who regularly tops donor lists. In total, he has spent northwards of $90 million to support Democratic and liberal causes. Steyer spent $66.3 million in the 2016 Presidential race, supporting Clinton and liberal policies.

“Every day, Americans are left bracing for a Twitter screed that could set off a nuclear war. These actions represent systemic attacks on our nation’s future.” -Tom Steyer

While Steyer is the type of Wall Street Democrat that many progressives abhor, he is also breaking ranks with the Democratic Party on some issues. Steyer has also proven willing to criticize establishment Democrats.

Steyer has lobbed shots at Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), an establishment Democratic who drew criticism for arguing that Trump “could be a good president.” In an open letter on www.needtoimpeach.com, Steyer states “It is evident that there is zero reason to believe he [Trump] can be a good president.”

Reportedly, Steyer is mulling a primary challenge against Senator Feinstein.

Steyer endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 but withheld his endorsement until Clinton’s victory in the Democratic primary became a certainty. The billionaire also hinted that he would have supported Bernie Sanders had the Senator won the race. Back in January of 2016 Stayer told Reuters:

“Our real goal has been not to support any one candidate, but to emphasize and highlight the issue (of climate change) so that the candidates can lay out their solutions and so the American people can have a chance to make a decision.”

Steyer is a retired hedge-fund manager and has a net worth north of $1.5 billion. He has already signed the “Giving Pledge” and plans to donate at least half of his wealth to charitable causes. Steyer founded NextGen America, a non-profit and political action committee that supports politicians and policies that aim to mitigate global warming. The organization vocally opposed the Keystone pipeline.
