Dems Vote to Block President on Emergency

By: - February 27, 2019

The Democrat-controlled U.S. House late Tuesday voted to block the president’s declaration of a national emergency over border funding. The House vote was 245-182 against Trump, with 13 Republicans voting to neuter him. This is the first time Congress has tried to overturn a president on an emergency declaration. This is also the first time Trump will possibly use his veto pen.

The 245 for it is far short of the 285 needed to override the president on this. Not to mention the Senate, where a veto would be sustained as well.

So this is just a mundane Dem exercise in grandstanding. Granted, that’s what politics generally is. But this is ideological hyperbole on an issue where most Americans don’t agree with the Dems. So it’s a net loser for them. One wonders why Speaker Ocasio-Cortez…er…um…Pelosi would even bring it up in this way. It’s because the Pavlovian identitarian socialists who now own the party demand it.

Update:  We took Meghan McCain to task over anti-Trump comments she made regarding the Oscars. And we rightly did so. The young lady is not a great intellect. However, she has enough of a moral compass on the abortion issue to call the recent Senate vote against protecting infants just after birth “infanticide.” This was much to the consternation of other airhead gorgons on “The View.” Good for her.

Close to Home: You know the cigar bar I refer to on a regular basis in this column, Annapolis Cigar Company? Well it just made national news as covered by The Washington Post and Fox News. The place, owned and run by a rambunctious libertarian, is a BYOB watering hole for members of the Maryland House of Delegates when they are in their 90-day legislative session. Like now. Simultaneous to catering to the pols, it serves as a tobacco-infused conversation/bourbon club for middle-aged males. Like me. The upstairs lounge is where the delegates play. We regulars hang out downstairs with the owner. It’s pretty much my downtown living room.

Anyway, a very dumb Dem delegate let her mask slip on race recently while she was there cavorting with fellow legislators. Mary Ann Lisanti, a white Dem from Hartford County, used the “N” word in describing Prince George’s County. PG, to we initiates, is an area with a high number of black voters. She did this in front of both white and black legislators. Whereupon, no doubt after they brushed it off when they heard it, her loyal and discreet social playmates quickly sold her out to the press.

It is very possible booze was involved, loosening her tongue and showing her true colors, and those of many white liberal Dems, when it comes to black voters who keep them in office. One hopes black voters would start to get the hint.

See how tobacco brings people together!
