The comely Heather Nauert, former State Department spokeschick and Trump nominee to be United States UN Ambassador, has turned down the gig, citing personal and family reasons. When a public figure says this it is usually a lie.
Many a pol caught with their hands in a cookie jar or spending too much time with someone not their spouse has used this excuse instead of truthfully saying, “Look, I’m gonna professionally lam it until the heat dies down. Then I’ll quietly slip into something low profile when you’re not looking.”
But the hotter than Cameron Diaz lookalike Nauert could possibly be telling the truth, as she already has gotten a taste of public life during her time at State and could have faced a grueling confirmation from clinically insane Democratic members of Congress.
There is a trade you need to make to be a successful public figure. It is your privacy traded for power and prestige. Some eagerly make the trade, as their greatest wish in life is to be liked by their fellow man. People like this are repugnant.
But some realize they want a real life and understand that just will not happen in public office. Before I was a political consultant, as a young man, I thought mightily about running for office. That was cured after working in about five campaigns and seeing how candidates lived and how their entire lives were dissected by wholly unworthy individuals in the opposing camp, like me.
No mature sane person would want or seek that. So bully for Nauert for possibly putting family and private sector career over the siren song of fame and reflected glory. In years hence, she will thank herself that she did.
