Fair is Fair

As this column takes regular pride in sarcastically bashing the smithereens out of the left, we are duty bound to offer mordant commentary on our own side when the situation arises. Not out of any moral symmetry between the right and the left.

They’re wrong and we’re right. Some of us, far right.

But an honest analyst finds fault where it lies, not only where his own politics lead him. Here, I’m not only a conservative polemicist, as most of my leftist pals think. I’m mainly a political analyst with a penchant for channeling Mencken. Got my start doing this kind of thing in Army Intelligence, where we were trained to tell hard truths. If we didn’t, men would die and GSFG units would not go away just because we wished they weren’t there.

Now that that’s out of the way, two things: Q and RBG.

You’d have to be the most gullible git in the world to believe that the web phenom Q is legitimate. His/Her predictions have roundly not come to pass and were nonsensical from the gitgo anyway. It’s like 19th century end-of-the world prophets who foretold of the big kaboom and then just shrugged when it didn’t happen. What transpired when all their acolytes had sold their worldly goods and were waiting on some prairie dunghill to gleefully meet their maker, a deity who decided to demure regardless of all the assurances of the prophets? Time for the holy men to pack up their rube lassos and move on to the next town.

Such as it is and will be with Q, as Barnum’s apocryphal adage cuts for both left and right at times.

That’s why there are those who are otherwise sentient on associated matters who breathlessly assure me on social media per my suspicions on this subject, “that’s just what they want you to think.” Yup, and the Atomic Mole Men who live underneath the North Pole and the alien lizards who masquerade as British royalty must want me to think that as well.

The UHF reception of the tinfoil bicorn hats of Q followers and my respect for Bond’s tech guy notwithstanding, I’ll take a pass on this fad into perpetuity. Not because there aren’t government sources who leak. But because they are usually not as godawful dumb and unintentionally hilarious as this alleged one.

And guess what kids? RBG is alive and has been seen in extant clothing and body not only at SCOTUS but also about town here in the DMV (DC, MD, VA). Is she sick? Probably. Terminal? Who knows? Does any sane person wish her demise because they disagree with her legal opinions? No, many times over.

But there is a certain brand of conservative gossipmonger who takes joy in the supposed reflected glory of spreading around absurd rumors. “Oh look, I’m in the know. I’m one of the cool kids,” they seem to say.

No geek, you’re not.

Now go back to your own lunch table.
