The left loves it when people “resist” until the defiance is against something they support. In this case, a suburban- Seattle gun store owner is resisting Washington State’s new gun law. According to KOMO TV’s Jennifer Sullivan, Tiffany Teasdale, owner of Lynnwood Gun in Lynnwood, Washington says, “the law doesn’t make sense.” She’s right.
While the ban aspects of the anti-gun bill went into effect on Jan 1st, two other portions of the law, ostensibly attempting to define what an “assault weapon” is, are scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2019.
Using logic, which always confuses the left, Teasdale says the new law bans her from selling “assault rifles” to people under 21 years of age. However, she added, “The term semi-automatic assault rifle doesn’t exist for another six months. How are they telling us we can’t sell something that doesn’t exist?” How, indeed? People who know about guns know there is no such thing as an “assault weapon”—regardless of whether or not a leftist government tries to define it. If the left gets its way, every semi-automatic firearm will be designated an assault weapon.
So, Teasdale did what any good business owner would do: she contacted the state’s anti-gun attorney general, Bob Ferguson. As of this writing, Ferguson has not returned Teasdale’s call to clarify the law for her. No surprise there.
Until June 30th, at 11:59 p.m., Teasdale said, “we can still sell to 18 to 20-year-olds AR-15s and semi-automatic shotguns.” Good for her. What a refreshing stance. I hope it catches on with other gun store owners.
In her courageous stance, Teasdale is not alone. Sheriffs in Lewis and Ferry counties say they will not enforce the new law. And Republic, WA. police Chief Loren Culp, who I’ve recently written about, said he took an oath to uphold the U.S. and Washington State Constitutions, and he feels this law violates them.
Tallman Trask, policy and advocacy director for the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility (WAGR), an anti-Second Amendment group, asserts the “new laws are clear.” I have no idea what color the sky is in this guy’s world, but clear is the last thing it is. This is a scam law that did not legitimately qualify for the ballot but was included anyway, which I also wrote about.
What is clear is the danger of groups and people who advocate Trask’s position. Trask clarified WAGR’s goals. “This is the first part of our comprehensive gun violence prevention initiative that’s going to make major changes in Washington State’s law and do some big reforms [emphasis mine].”
Okay, now I’ll agree with Trask. His and WAGR’s positions are quite clear: Infringe on Washingtonians’ gun rights in any way possible until you can find a way to completely usurp American’s gun rights.
