Chris Matthews is at it again…
Liberal commentator Chris Matthews has put his foot in his mouth yet again. On his MSNBC show, Matthews was discussing the influence that Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, have on the White House. In doing so, he made a comparison to Saddam Hussein’s sons Uday and Qusay.
For those who may not be aware or need a quick refresher, the now-deceased sons of Saddam Hussein were nothing short of Satan himself—especially Uday. He was infamous for being a monster who routinely raped, tortured, and murdered. He carried out unspeakable acts against his own people by indulging in his every whim and sick appetite. Without a doubt, Uday Hussein made his father Saddam look harmless. He played psychological games with his victims, even raping newly-married women on their wedding days. These women had no choice but to follow Uday’s sickening orders, and anyone who intervened or dared to object met an even worse fate. He sent his henchmen out on regular missions to bring back women—and even young girls—so that he could have his way with them.
There is simply no basis for a comparison to such disgusting human beings. Unfortunately, the attacks on the family of President Donald Trump are nothing new. In fact, while covering the Indiana primary, Matthews came under fire for hot mic comments regarding Melania Trump, saying, “Did you see her walk? Runway walk. My God, is that good…I could watch that runway show.” That comment alone strikes me as sexist and belittling. It insinuates that now-First Lady Melania Trump is nothing more than a model on display for the American people. Mrs. Trump has had to face a scathing, ruthless barrage of criticism and mocking remarks via social media and news outlets. The comments are usually callous and inappropriate. They’d make any normal person feel incredibly degraded and exhausted.
However normal it may be to comment on the adult children of the President who have inserted themselves into the spotlight, it’s incomprehensible to compare anyone associated with politics in the United States to ruthless family members of a ruthless dictator. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner seem to be the most progressive of those in the White House. They would presumably advocate for a more liberal agenda before anyone else; they’ve shown this by not only championing for women’s rights, but defending policies that have been set in place to protect LGBT Americans. While including adult family members in the routine operations of the White House is unprecedented, President Trump has shown that his leadership style and policies differ vastly from previous establishments.
While not everyone agrees with President Trump or his family members and the capacity in which they operate, we as Americans are not having state-sanctioned terror imposed upon us. We enjoy the most freedom of any country in the world. Choosing to criticize the President and his family won’t get anyone in the United States killed or tortured. As such, Matthews enjoys the freedom to not only disagree with President Trump, but to spew ridiculous statements about his family without fear of being punished in unimaginable ways.
