Yeah, Biden stuttered a bit last night and said “anyway” too much, but he put the nervous-sounding Kamala Harris back into her box on a number of issues during the second debate. He won the night and those gullible few who already think that Biden will lose to a Trump landslide are too early, too presumptuous, and are likely the same slow-witted MAGA uber alles robots who assured us 2018 would be a “red tsunami” election.
There were other features of note that come to mind. Those will be apparent soon enough to any of you who are actually reading this and have not absurdly decided to merely comment on a headline and not on the article, which you haven’t read in the first place. Don’t think that’s a thing? Read the Facebook comment section on this very piece.
In this debate Gabbard’s weird Cold War scare story, Gillibrand’s sorority girl on meth delivery, and Yang’s channeling of Marianne Williamson all bode well for Biden. He looks stable and competent by comparison.
The consistent result of the night was that even through his occasional befuddlement Joe Biden the liberal saw off leftist snipers and held enough of center-left ground to make him a threat in 2020. Will Dem Bolshies take an election day powder because of his perceived moderation? No. They hate the president too much to do that.
Booker went after him with the race card; Biden parried. Harris, her voice almost breaking with nervous tension at times, tried also to play the race bit; Biden shut her down. In fact, to her surprise, a bunch of her fellow candidates went after Kamala more than they went after Joe.
You know why? Because they smell blood in the water and realized her boomlet following the last debate was a fluke. She chokes under pressure and stays on script, even when she needs to sound genuine, like an automaton. Harris is a glorified shyster obviously not ready to try this case. The political feeding frenzy caused by her rhetorical ineptitude last night will now proceed apace.
In more amusing developments, Inslee and Gillibrand were so starved for attention they masochistically went for the “white privilege” gambit. It fell flat. And the pandering of Booker to the Detroit audience went past the point of grossly submissive into comically servile.
The one thing that seemed to unite them all, their guiding star, was that you dear reader are too dumb to manage your own life and you have way too much money. They believe that leftist government, with its shining record of accomplishment over the decades in Detroit itself, is a trustworthy steward of your potential prosperity, that government knows best. Thus, they will happily relieve you of the burden of all that excess cash and redeploy it at their whimsy. If only “for the kids,” of course.
And you know what? About 50 percent of the American people agree with them. More than that, if the popular vote is an indication. Not surprising. Motivated by an aggressively superficial 24/7 news cycle, the modern popular franchise (no, not McDonald’s) has devolved to mob rule.
So strap in for the ride, kids, and put all your mindless cheerleading aside. This one will be tough. The former veep could win. To think he can’t and wallow in your own shiftless certitude of a guaranteed Trump victory will only make it easier for Joe Biden to do just that.
Still think we can’t lose, think it’s already a shoo-in against a weak opponent? So did President Hillary Clinton.
