I try to be careful with my language. When I use a word, I aim to use it with precision, appropriately, and in the proper context. I’ve never been a fan of using unnecessary foul language to intimidate or for effect. I also use expletives in my writing sparingly.
So, it is with this caveat in mind that I respond to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s despicable comment during his recent gubernatorial debate with challenger Cynthia Nixon: “New York State is the state that says we will not cooperate with ICE—they’re a bunch of thugs.”
Take that in for a moment: “They’re a bunch of thugs.”
This comment came from the sitting governor of a major U.S. state to bolster his leftist credentials while running for reelection. It shows just how far Democrats have fallen away from the mainstream. In fact, the Democrat Party ship has listed so far left, I think it has capsized. And if they don’t get rid of some ballast soon, that ship may sink.
My immediate response to the governor calling my federal law enforcement brothers and sisters serving our country as ICE agents “thugs” was this:
Gov. Cuomo: “ICE—they’re a bunch of thugs.”
Me: “Gov. Cuomo—he’s a piece of shit!”
That was my honest, reflexive reaction when I heard that man call law enforcement officers, doing the job their country has asked them to do, thugs. If you can’t go that far, how about we at least agree it was a piece of shit thing to say?
I’ve had it with leftist luminaries denigrating law enforcement. What kind of society, or mainstream political faction within a society, disparages the people who risk their lives to protect them and make them so much safer than they would be without those people? Just to get more votes.
Let that sink in, too. One of the two major political parties has adopted a de facto platform plank that lauds violent, anti-law enforcement groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter while maligning law enforcement officers at every level of government.
ICE and Border Patrol agents are us. They are you and me. They are people who serve in a dangerous job, keeping Americans safe from those who would hurt us. One of my best friends just retired from ICE. We’ve been friends for about 47 years, and he’s my son’s godfather. Like I said, ICE agents are us. They are fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. They are aunts, uncles, cousins and, yes, godparents.
What poison does one have to let seep into one’s heart to utter such venom? The governor revealed an enormous character defect, even when spouted during a political campaign, to allow such deliberate slime to ooze from his mouth. Just to out-left his socialist opponent. Wasn’t saying about America “it was never that great” enough? He had to make it worse.
And though the comment pissed me off, the event wasn’t without its humor. In juvenile, middle-school fashion, responding to Nixon’s quip “Can you stop lying?” Cuomo replied, “I’ll stop lying when you do.” Hmmm, I’m thinking Governor POS would have done better saying “I’m not lying,” or something in that vein, instead of validating Nixon’s point. But, at least we know Gov. POS is a self-declared liar. Still, while “I’m not lying” would still sound vapid, at least, it would not have been abjectly imbecilic.
I am opposed to Governor POS’s opponent, Cynthia Nixon. Her political ideology is stupid and dangerous. People always, each and every single time someone tries it, suffer under socialism—every single damned time. Yet, a new crop of neo-revolutionaries keeps rising. Just ask people who live in the formerly first-world, oil-rich Venezuela how socialism is working down there. And there’s also the recent Gallup poll that named Venezuela the most dangerous country on earth.
Oh, but I keep forgetting. This time Ms. Nixon along with her comrades, including fellow New York socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Florida socialist gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, and their mentor socialist Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will finally do socialism right—this time.
However, though the results of socialism are often evil, I wouldn’t attribute evil as Ms. Nixon’s motivation. She likely believes every word she says, and she intends to do good. So much more is the pity. She’d be wise to stick with acting; that she’s good at.
Still, I have to give her credit for giving it a shot. And the socialist ideas she’s peddling can only help conservatives—and conservatives can also delight in her intra-party attacks on Gov. POS. You know, the enemy of my enemy… Okay, is still my enemy, but you get the point.
To the contrary, what Gov. Cuomo said about ICE agents is indeed evil. What he said about President Trump “ripping babies from the arms of their mothers” is a lie. He knows it and couldn’t care less. Law enforcement often separates children from parents after those parents commit crimes.
Ask Gov. POS if his New York State Police troopers don’t “rip babies from their mothers” when those mothers commit crimes. They do it every day under the auspices of Cuomo. When I was still on the job, I arrested many parents who’d broken the law—sometimes their children were with them.
According to the left, when I had to call Child Protective Services (CPS) to take the kids into the state’s care, was I ripping them from their mother’s arms. Was I just a thug, too? Are Cuomo’s New York State Police troopers thugs? I guess Gov. POS would think so. All ICE agents are doing is what all law enforcement officers do when parents commit crimes. People are breaking the law, entering the U.S. illegally, some with their children.
Breaking the law with your child present seems like lousy parenting to me. ICE needs to remove the children from their parents’ care while the parents deal with the consequences of their illegal actions. This is nothing new, folks. Been happening forever.
Among so many other duties, ICE fights violent gangs like MS-13, arrests human traffickers, and interdicts criminal illegal aliens crossing our border who are killing Americans like Kate Steinle, Mollie Tibbets, and Sgt. Brandon Mendoza. And what about Courtney Hacking? She was not killed, but she may as well have been. An illegal alien driving with no license fell asleep at the wheel and killed her husband and two young children. Her entire family wiped out in an instant.
These are the kinds of people from whom ICE protects us. And the New York governor calls them “a bunch of thugs.” No, Governor POS, you’re wrong. ICE and Border Patrol are a bunch of…oh, what’s that word again—remember, I like to be precise and use my words in the proper context—oh, right…heroes.
