Election day is officially here, and what a ride it’s been. I think we can say that this election season has been the most bizarre we’ve ever seen.
From an incumbent president who was forced out of the race by his own party, to two separate assassination attempts, to the never ending accusations of fascism, Nazism, and Hitler-isms, we’ve been through a roller coaster of a year.
But I want to focus on, in my opinion, the most brilliant presidential campaign I have ever seen from a candidate.
The campaign of Donald J. Trump.
Whether Donald Trump wins the race on Tuesday or not (although I think he will), we need to recognize the fact that Trump has changed the game of campaigning for years to come.
From campaigning in deep blue districts and states, to speaking to the Libertarian convention, to appearing on numerous podcasts, Donald Trump breached the echo chamber of party affiliation, and reached out to the largest demographic we have seen a presidential candidate reach out to in decades.
Not to mention we have a candidate that is the master at PR, and a “trolling” genius that led to a former president cooking fries at a McDonald’s, and ride to a rally in a garbage truck.
The meaning of this also goes much deeper.
Because of this style in campaigning, reaching a vast number of demographics and age groups, if Donald Trump does NOT win the race, to me this shows the country is so far divided, there is no way to reconcile between sides. It would show that no matter how much to reach out to new people and try to have a discussion, or present new ideas, we are so deeply ingrained with stigma, assumptions, and stereotypes, that we cannot bring the country back together through conversation.
But as the eternal optimist, I have confidence that by talking to those that may never have heard a word of conservatism, and showing groups that we are still “human”, and not some evil “racist cult”, that voters will be able to see the lies and manipulations the media and Democrat party have used for years to isolate and brainwash half of the voter base in the nation.
Let’s get ready for a wild election night… and whatever may happen in the nation thereafter.
