It’s No Longer Possible (or Ethical) to Empathize with Many Leftist Political Positions

By: - March 10, 2019

Don Trump Jr. recently told Bill O’Reilly on the No Spin NewsI’m pretty damn conservative, but I have friends who are not. I used to be able to say, okay, I can put myself in their shoes, and I can argue their side of the deal and do it pretty effectively. I can’t do that anymore, Bill.”

He’s right. Think about it. Could you argue in favor of open-borders, illegal alien criminal sanctuary, unconstitutional gun confiscation, late third-trimester abortion, or, worse, infanticide—murder? Those are not sane positions in the United States of America. And because the above quote was uttered by the president’s son, his namesake no less, most leftists will have closed their minds to this coherent observation.

Militant, intolerant leftists reject open-mindedness. But being open-minded is crucial to cultivating understanding and compromise between opposing factions. As a retired cop, I understand the value of having an open mind. I constantly had to see issues from conflicting perspectives, some I agreed with and some I did not. My job was to appear neutral and objective.

I can’t think of another profession where you must be more open-minded. Cops cannot assume anything when investigating an incident. But the militant, political left assumes everything about their opponents and their arguments, mostly that they’re right and their rivals are wrong.

But how do you handle the neo-leftist Democrats seeking their party’s presidential nomination? How do you keep an open mind about people who want to confiscate your guns, protect violent illegal alien criminals, support late-term abortions (even infanticide), and who change their positions like political chameleons depending on an inconsistent political backdrop?

Not all that long ago, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) got an A rating from the NRA. Senator Gillibrand once bragged about her pro-gun stance while campaigning for office in rural upstate New York. Today, she wants to confiscate Americans’ guns.

Sen. Gillibrand cleverly blends in with the changing political backdrop as it shifts ever further toward socialism. She even supports AOC’s incoherent Green New Deal. But when Sen. Gillibrand was running for federal office, she said she was “embarrassed” about her NRA A rating. She said she’d changed her mind on the issue after learning more about “gun violence.” Yeah, right. She changed her mind when she wanted to change jobs—from state to U.S. senator where she needed the urban, anti-gun, liberal vote to win.

Elizabeth Warren is another Democrat shape-shifter. Today she is much more radical than the person she was not all that long ago. Mired in leftist politics and working diligently to become even more entrenched in the socialist swamp, she has abandoned her sanity. Attempting to appear “down home,” snagging a beer from the fridge, she looked as stupid as another Massachusetts liberal, Mike Dukakis, when he donned an army helmet and rode in a tank.

Oddly, the Massachusetts (a real Indian name) senator wrote a book back in 2003 that made a whole lot of sense. “The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Parents Are (Still) Going Broke” explains the plight of American parents who can no longer afford to have a parent stay at home with their children because of the necessity of two-earner families.

Obviously, single-earner families with mom (or dad) staying home with kids is not a neo-leftist ideal, so you don’t hear Sen. Warren talking about it anymore. So radicalized by the neo-left, she and Sen. Gillibrand couldn’t bring themselves to vote for a recent bill that would have mandated doctors provide medical care to babies born after an abortion fails.

If they’re religious, I wonder how they’re going to explain that one at the Pearly Gates? I needed ibuprofen after just listening to the verbal contortions Democrat senators twisted themselves into while trying to justify their No votes on protecting babies’ lives.

With the left it’s all about demonizing rather than debating their opponents. You’re not wrong; you’re evil, and you must shut up. Your position is not valid; it is hate speech.

As Donald Trump Jr. told Bill O’Reilly, it is no longer possible to empathize with the political positions of many Democrats. The pro-open-borders, illegal alien criminal-protecting, pro-infanticide, anti-Second Amendment neo-leftists have drifted too far from sanity.
