Sales Shoot Up for Ivanka Trump’s Brand After Retailers Drop Her Products

Tags: ,

Those hoping to have an effect on Ivanka Trump certainly did just that—it just wasn’t how they hoped…

I guess there really is no such thing as bad publicity. Since Nordstrom very publicly decided to drop Ivanka Trump’s clothing line in February, her merchandise has risen to record sales. I’m sure this is also due to the fact that there were still many people who were unaware that Ivanka Trump had her own brand of products. Some groups called for boycotts of the brand, in addition to any brand associated with President Donald Trump, over politics. It made no sense to many voters on either side how going after President Trump’s family members would benefit the country. The only explanation that could be offered is that some are simply vindictive.

However, the plan to boycott Ms. Trump’s fashion line sort of backfired. Certain groups even took credit and gloated when the Ivanka Trump brand was dropped not only by Nordstrom, but several other retailers as well. Online retailers reported that they had seen up to a 650% increase in searches for Ivanka Trump products since the news of her being dropped hit headlines. The Ivanka Trump website itself had over a 100% increase in views since the incident. This suggests that despite the social media frenzy over policies made by President Trump, many still believe that it’s wrong to take that out on his children.

Regardless of whether or not they chose to participate in the spotlight or politics, President Trump’s children should not be targets. By going after their businesses and money, people are hoping to have an impact on their livelihood. This is wrong in many ways.

There was a lot of speculation that Nordstrom felt compelled to drop the Ivanka Trump line of clothing and accessories because the store was listed on a popular boycott website as being associated with the Trump name. The purpose of that boycott was to cause as much damage as possible to those who chose to be associated in some way with President Trump. Nordstrom claimed that they dropped the brand because of poor sales. Conveniently, other retailers said the same thing when they explained why they also dropped the Ivanka Trump brand. It doesn’t take much to put two and two together and see how people come to a completely different conclusion.

Since retailers caved and decided to let outside influences dictate how they operate their businesses, it became headline news that Ivanka Trump’s products had been dropped. President Trump condemned the actions as being unfair to his daughter. In addition to the president speaking on the subject, senior adviser Kellyanne Conway gave the Ivanka Trump brand some free publicity in a controversial news segment.

It looks like those who meant to hurt Ivanka actually gave her brand some business. Those who read the news stories felt compelled to investigate her clothing line on their own. So the group hoping to have an effect on Ivanka Trump certainly did just that—it just wasn’t how they hoped.
