Does U.S. District Judge James Robart need another excuse to revoke his 2018 ruling the Seattle Police Department (SPD) was in “full and effective compliance” with a bogus federal consent decree? If so, up steps a group of dependable lefties in the form of an anti-cop-saturated “citizen-advisory panel,” which includes progressives such as Community Police Commission member Fé Lopez and Anne Levinson, a retired judge.
The Seattle Times reports, “Seattle is backsliding on federally-mandated police reforms after enacting a labor contract with the city’s rank-and-file union that doesn’t improve transparency in the internal disciplinary process, undermining public trust, a citizen-advisory panel said Wednesday [Feb. 20, 2019].”
So, because a federal judge disagrees with a state binding arbitration decision to reinstate a fired officer, the cops’ four-year-late labor contract has been held in abeyance. Fortunately, the officers have been given their raises and their well-deserved retro pay is scheduled to be paid in March. Still, unsatisfied, the judge, if he has the authority (often they give themselves the authority), may have the city renegotiate the discipline and transparency aspects of the contract. Who knows? The judge may even reinstate the bogus consent decree.
Isn’t it remarkable what Obama/Holder-era DOJ anti-cop leftists did after conducting a fake study, creating predetermined conclusions of police use-of-force abuses, and then refusing to make public the scientific methodology used to arrive at such ludicrous conclusions? Conclusions soundly debunked by a local criminal justice professor. Still, local mainstream media never refer to the consent decree as controversial, only as a given that it was the result of officer misconduct.
Former U.S. Attorney Andy McCarthy once put the Obama DOJ’s assault on America’s local police departments perfectly. “They’ve had their thumbs on the scales from the beginning.” He also told Newsmax the DOJ “has approached [police department investigations] with a presumption of racial guilt.” There. I couldn’t have said it any better myself. Now, I don’t have to.
This anti-police stance disguised as concern for public safety is a staggering act of societal self-sabotage or even community suicide. Seattle’s leftist establishment has been oppressing the great men and women of the SPD for years. The result has been a huge backlash. The city’s cops are escaping this urban, political, ideological gulag in unprecedented numbers.
The city’s leftist establishment comprised of political leaders, criminal justice officials, media outlets, and community activist groups is never satisfied with law enforcement and never will be. Think about it. They need for “problems” to continue, so they’ll always have a healthy supply of victims to“rescue.” They believe the worst about police officers, and they dislike how law enforcement is done when cops do it properly and effectively. They don’t like that good policing is based on equal justice, not social justice.
Simply put, neo-leftists don’t like that cops don’t like it when their leaders pick the laws the cops will and will not enforce. Or when those leaders choose which people with whom the cops may or may not enforce certain laws.
To the political left, the world is their Monopoly board and the people are the game pieces they control. They look at the world from what they arrogantly know is a morally superior vantage point. Remember socialist U.S. Rep. AOC’s infamous declaration: “There’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.” Apparently, a federal judge and citizens advisory panel in Seattle feel the same way. Not only are neo-leftists never wrong but also their political opponents are never right—only racist, misogynist, homophobic, Islamophobic (and whatever other ist, ic, or phobe ya got) for not agreeing with the leftist orthodoxy. So, Seattle’s neo-Democrat/socialist cabal will continue hatin’ on cops while trying to cloak their obvious antipathy for law enforcement within their incessant social justice warrior blather.
