The legal team at Liberty Counsel long has waged war on the abortion ideology across America.
Efforts to change laws, health standards, precedents and such take time.
But sometimes an individual circumstance demands action right now.
Such was the case that developed recently, when a Florida minor contacted the organization for help in fighting what was planned to be a coerced abortion out of state.
“Even though the pregnant teen and her teen boyfriend wanted to choose life for their unborn child after discovering she was pregnant, a family member made arrangements to take her against her will to Illinois for an abortion to evade Florida’s six-week ‘heartbeat’ law,” the report said.
The success is that the baby, a girl, was born later weighing nearly eight pounds.
The fight developed last November when “the boyfriend sought Liberty Counsel’s help to prevent the family member from coercing an out-of-state abortion scheduled to happen that Monday in Chicago.”
It was within 24 hours that Liberty Counsel had submitted a demand letter to the pregnant girl’s family members which, in coordination with the Florida office of the state attorney general, warned that coercing an abortion is illegal in every state.
That, and the letter said, the teen’s own parental rights were superior to theirs.
A family member immediately canceled the plans to travel to abortion haven Illinois.
“In the letter, Liberty Counsel noted that the Federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act makes it a federal crime, in certain circumstances, for anyone to kill a baby in the womb against the mother’s wishes. Any third party, including a relative, who causes a baby to be killed in the womb may be guilty of ‘fetal homicide,’ the letter reads. While parents still have the legal duty to protect, provide for, and care for pregnant minor daughters, a minor girl has the legal right to choose life, and direct the care and upbringing of the child in her womb,” Liberty Counsel explained.
The legal team pointed out that it discovered the Chicago Abortion Fund had been planning to pay for the flights, hotels and more. The report said that fund has paid more than $20 million for abortion costs since 2022, and part of that funding came from Chicago and Cook County taxpayers.
“As for Liberty Counsel’s teen client, CAF’s partner Florida abortion clinic still pushed and attempted to manipulate her into an abortion even after she informed the staff she was being coerced against her will. … Yet, Florida law requires that pregnant women be afforded the opportunity to see ultrasound photos and video,” the report said.
“We celebrate this baby girl who has the unalienable right to life, and we commend this baby’s young parents who courageously chose life amidst intense pressure to kill the unborn baby. Regardless of the circumstances, a pregnant minor possesses the same constitutional rights as any mother to care for her unborn child,” explained Liberty Counsel chief Mat Staver.
“Death trafficking has no place in society.”
