Let the Punishment Fit the Crime: Going Old Testament on Hate Crime Hoaxers

Professor Alan Dershowitz has been raising an interesting possible consequence for hate crime hoaxsters. He suggests we go Old Testament on their asses, referring to Deuteronomy 19:18 (NIV), which reads, The judges must make a thorough investigation, and if the witness proves to be a liar, giving false testimony [lying] against a fellow Israelite, then do to the false witness as that witness intended to do to the other party. You must purge the evil from among you.”

So, think to yourself what would be an appropriate sentence if two MAGA hat-wearing, racist, homophobic, bleach-pouring, black-lynching, white males really had gone out at 2 a.m. on that frigid, sub-zero Chicago morning and insulted and assaulted a popular African American TV star—and hung a noose around his neck?

What would be the punishment for doing that? Frankly, if someone actually committed such a crime, I wouldn’t lose a minute of sleep over any amount of time they got—lock the door and chuck the key into Lake Michigan. Back to reality. After doing your research, you’ll probably arrive at something like this: a huge fine, several years in prison, and public disgrace for life. Should this be the punishment for Jussie Smollett? If not, why not? Something like this would have been the sentence for defendants convicted of committing the crime alleged in the hoax.

The Smollett hoax offends me for one very significant reason: I am a victim of his hate crime hoax. I support President Trump. Because of that and the false racist narrative the Democrats have sown, leftists consider me a de facto racist. A retired cop who dedicated much of his life to serving and protecting his community. I don’t deserve to be put in harm’s way by one of America’s two major political parties: the Democrats. None of us do.

Conflating a Trump supporter’s red ball cap, which reads, Make America Great Again,” with a white KKK hood, and then deriding and assaulting them because of it, seems like a form of mental illness. Anyway, I prefer wearing my Boston Red Sox cap to a MAGA hat. But, sadly, I’d be more at risk of assault wearing a MAGA hat on the U.C. Berkeley campus than by wearing a Sox cap at a Yankees bar in the Bronx.

And part of the illness is, according to Smollett’s apologists, they will forgive his alleged offenses because, while this crime most likely didn’t happen, they say Smollett’s lie still illustrates the supposed hate perpetrated by Trump supporters that goes on all the time and everywhere. If that ain’t a great example of projection, I don’t know what is. Once again, if you want to know what the left is up to, look at what they’re accusing the right of doing.

There are myriad examples of leftist “brown shirts” attacking Trump supporters. This includes one caught on video of a leftist thug sucker-punching a Trump supporter exercising his First Amendment rights at U.C. Berkeley. Finding actual cases of Trump supporters committing violence is rare. How do I know? Because if they weren’t rare, we’d see them splashed across the mainstream media headlines, and we don’t. However, hate crime hoaxes are not rare. There have been dozens perpetrated especially since President Trump’s election in 2016.

Would the justice system ever go Old Testament on Jussie Smollett? Probably not—he’s a Trump-hating leftist, so he’ll likely get a pass. We only have to look at good ol’ Rev. Al, author of the Tawana Brawley hoax, to know that.
